side stand hitting muffler

I just noticed that side stand is hitting the bottom of the muffler to the point that it has dented it. Is there supposed to be something that stops this? I'm planning on new mufflers this summer and would prefer they not get dented too soon.

There's normally a bracket with a rubber bung on it

I'm sure I've seen some bikes with the bumper on the muffler and others with a bumper on the side stand itself.

My 81 had rubber on the extended piece that sticks out of the stand.

Should be one on the side stand and one on the muffler. The muffler one is a bumper for the center stand. If you have good oem mufflers DON'T cut them up. Sell them on the forum or ebay. Nice ones are getting hard to find!!

Thanks all. I'll check for the rubber bumpers. All the factory parts are being safely stored away.
