Slide Needle Differences

i have an 81 XS400 and my bike came with the non adjustable slide needle with the preset clip position. My carb rebuild kit came with the adjustable needle with the multiple clip positions. I noticed there was a size difference as well when I got to looking at it: the new one seemed much thinner. Are these parts interchangeable? It came with a needle jet as well. I was thinking sticking with stock is better but was just curious if it would work

If you bought one of the ebay overhaul kits , I would stay with the stock ones. Unless they are worn you will be better off- at least I was. If you check the specs on your bike they list the size of the needle. Check and compare.
