Hello, I have a 1980 XS400SG built in 11 of 1979 and have a couple questions.

Did this early model have a headlight relay?

If it came with a headlight relay, exactly where is it located?

If it did not come with a relay, where does the headlight get power from?

If it did not come with a relay, is there a wiring diagram specifically for this exact bike that shows the wiring with no relay? . I have only found wiring diagrams for bikes with relays.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Up front of the bike under the fuel tank on the frame. There are threads in the forum on this.

Found it, thank you very much. I did a search for the answer but could not find the threads you are referring to?

Do you know if there is an auto parts store one that can be used in place of it, or if it is safe to bypass it completely?

No auto parts store will have it. The bike needs to be running in order for it to trip the relay and make the headlight come on. I would also make sure the bulb for the light is working. I do have good working relays if you still need one.

That is more xlnt info and is what i thought, as I just looked at the wiring diagram and the white wire from the stator must trigger the relay once the bike starts.

How much do you want for yours and how soon can you sent it?

Do you also have a good signal cancellor?
