XS Gas Tanks

Alpha Heaven in Wisconsin had a nice selection of restorable tanks. I bought a XS650 tank from them a few years back and it was better than advertised. Bike Boneyard in Montana also tends to have good stuff. Dry climate means low rust.

Google them, easy to find.

D&A Classic bikes in Indiana is an Indoor bike salvage place. Most stuff is extremely clean. Phone is 1(260)724-7055. Guy named Dave runs it as a retirement hobby. Fabulous guy to deal with.

The bikes with the frames most similar to the XS400 is the RD250-400 series. If you had one of each frame sitting side by side, you can see where the XS400 design got its start. They are almost identical except for the height of the XS frame for the four stroke engine. Most if not all of the various RD wheels, brakes, swingarm, etc will fit the 400.

You're welcome. One of the things about Yamaha more so than many manufacturers is if you understand the parts system and also know they like to use the same or similar parts on as many models as possible makes for nice Frankenstein bikes. Example: most of the small twin two strokes like the 125/180/200s used many of the same transmission and drive parts as the small early Enduros 125-175cc. Many parts interchange. They still do it. You can fit the wide ratio gears from a WR426 into the two stroke YZ250 and have a wide ratio box in your MX bike.

Hard to be sure, looks like Superbike bend to me. SB is a great all around bend.

What kind of modding is needed to fit a seca 750 tank. Noticed it was posted it could work with some mods, just curious as to if it needs to be shorter or longer rear mount or why?

You also have to look at tunnel width. The sohc xs400 has a triple back bone making most tanks hard to fit.

I get that, I was just curious as to if it would fit over our triple backbone. I have no idea how the seca frame is compared to ours. Hoping maybe it is just a longer tank or something that would make it easy

Yes, this was my problem when buying a "universal" gas tank. Lol. And then I bought a xs750 tank and it was too big, SMH. Spending more money to find a tank that fits.
