Intro and Build

Hey there! Nice build! Could you possibly post a large pic of the tank with the decals? I am having a hard time finding a good picture of that tank, I'm having custom vinyl decals made and my guy needs a good picture for measurements!

Ginger, PM me your email address and I will send you the jpeg of the best picture I've got of the decals (original blue and white tank right?).

man that swingarm is sick. nice to see some progress on this build. its gonna be so cool. the amount of stretch looks great to get the wheel out from under that rear loop. looks great man

Thanks for the kind comments :)

I put the bits of my front disc brake together for the first time in ages today...

Still pisses me off how I messed up getting the bracket to sit parallel to the fork leg, I'm definately going to redo it some day.

Found a 180 deg mandrel bend steel tube in roughly the correct centres for a 2-1 manifold

Had a little mess around during my lunch today and knocked up a quick drawing for using the bend.

Not gonna be able to put it off any longer soon...I'm actually gonna have to start building the bloody thing

It looks like it belongs; it follows the general taper of thin to fat as you move up the fork to the handle bars. "Fixing" it would probably be less pleasing aesthetically. Notice how you'd have to add material to the upper right-hand bolt hole; this would create an uneven border around the bracket.

it dosnt look too bad, that manifold design you have there might be a bit trickey, ive dealt with some single plane intakes on V8's that dont like designs that have no "common runner" before splitting up into each intake runner.

you may want to think about welding an inch or two of an extention before the bend, in my experience it helps the intake pulses eaven out a bit and pull more evenly through the carb

(my opinion is based off a 4 barrel style intake with multiple jets it may be totally different for a single carb with one jet, but it is still nice to have some room for intake pulses to even out...hence the design for a "tunnel ram" style intake)

see how this intake has long runners then a single "common" collection point....(bit of an extreme example)

mad jealous. i wish i had the time and space to work on my bike like that. it is going to look amazing finished. have you decided color yet? cause right now that steel looks sexy

Really cool cad, I would leave it and maybe it will grow on you. Otherwise you always have something for next winter. :)

@xs400d: haha, you know he is working on the bike in his bedroom, right?
on the other hand I wish I could live amongst bikes myself. But then in a bigger place. :)

"xs400d: haha, you know he is working on the bike in his bedroom, right?"

haha I was about to say the same thing, a flat in London isnt too much space

Yeah, you are right bcware about fixing this bracket. If I was to redo the design it would be simpler, more like this...

Tried to get all fancy, adding the indent so I could paint it to match the tank colour etc, and I fucked it up basically, lol.

Thanks XS400D  I've not decided on colour yet. I keep going from liking a KTM sportsbike theme with orange frame and white tank etc, to leaving it all natural looking with the steel and aluminium. Also thought about having the frame and some other bits nickel plated but I'm not sure the frames nice enough for that. I just don't want to go with the normal black frame and then paint the tins. I think I want a colourful frame and the tone it down with simpler colours on the tank and mudguards. A bit like this, a lovely BSA I saw in a mag recently...

Thanks Jonathan, I know its not too bad, just pissed off with myself after all the effort finding somebody to machine it and then I mess up the design when it's my job to be accurate with CAD drawings  Are we going to see a roller with your bike soon?

yeah i do... i don't even have that much space. my gf would kill me if there was a motorbike in our room =)

My girlfriend was not amused by the motorbike appearing in my bedroom (in my defense it was wet and cold and a pain in the arse working on it in the street and worrying about my stuff getting stolen all the time).

I was given the ultimatum of her or the bike and I think to the surprise of both of us the bike won :wtf: Man...she was really cute as well, what a loser I am, lol....

:bike:

Q: Why is this dude riding off saddle in both pics?

BSA%20colour%20scheme.jpg

A: Why, to keep his wallet chain from fouling in the spokes of course!

Happy Friday everyone!

haha, yeah. That sounds frustrating. But hey, you learn everytime. :)

It's gonna be a roller this week hopefully, should have been one last week, but school and work is burying me at the moment. This very saturday evening i'm gonna be in school till round midnight. Just so that I maybe can go and work on my bike tomorrow. And yeah, i've been working all day. haha. :)

A bit of spare time this weekend so I thought I'd shave my legs...

Fork legs that is
