    Spec for a 78 XS400 2E

According to the Haynes manual (which lists almost all of the settings for my bike in the back on 9 pages,) my 78 2E has preset pilot air screws. I replaced them as part of my carb rebuild, so now I have absolutely no idea how many turns out to set them at. The other models are listed at 3.5...

    Hammer stock fenders?

Would it work if I just cut and hammered out the stock fenders? I thought about using them to make a custom front and rear fender for my 78, but both are chromed and I don't know if it would be good for cutting and hammering. My bike is a brat tracker build, if that helps.

    Ebay carb rebuild kits?

Saw this on eBay and was hoping to get some opinions. I have a 78 XS400, do you guys this this will work? http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=131547739724&alt=web I've been holding off on my carbs cause Im afraid I'll break something and won't be able to replace it. If...

    Rear brake setup

That's what that spring is for! I couldn't figure it out because it looked like my center stand spring and I thought I just had an extra. Well, at least I know that part now. I haven't had a ton of time to look at it, but I have been having a horrible time with the brakes. They look so...

    Rear brake setup

Could someone please show me the entire rear drum setup? I have a 78 XS400 and I can't get the setup right. I don't know which spring needs to be attached to get the brake lever to spring back, PLUS when I press the brake, instead of the brake arm pulling towards the front of the bike, it...

    New parts for first rebuild

Since I'm rebuilding my carbs for the first time and probably for the first time since the bike was made (78 XS400) I was hoping to find all of the parts needed for a good rebuild. I'm looking for all the jets and gaskets, but I keep finding them all separately. Is there a site that sells a...

New Private Message Won't Show Up

I have a new private message notification showing up but when I go to open it it says there isn't anything there. It's still flashing and displaying that I have one, but when I click to open it it isn't there at all.

    Stupid air jet

I didn't even see that post! That's what I get for doing a forum search instead of just looking in the section I need. This is my first time cleaning and rebuilding a carb, so I'm trying to take it slow and hopefully get it right.

    Stupid air jet

So I'm taking the carbs apart to clean them before putting them back on my 78. They are filthy, probably weren't even cleaned by the previous owner. The pictures are what it looked like under the float seat and how much junk came out of just those from both carbs. While I'm soaking the needle...

For Sale - Some Extra Parts....

I need the whole unit for left and right side pegs, but I don't need the passenger pegs. Would that center stand fit a 78 and do you have the spring for it? Get back to me with shipping when you can and we can work something out. Thanks! :)

For Sale - Some Extra Parts....

What kind of shape are the foot pegs in? I need both sides for the rider. How much for those, the center stand, and the oil/neutral gauge to 40475?

What did you do with your XS today?

I would kill to have my forks that clean. I mounted my forks today and and spent forever looking for some smaller controls. I've also still been cleaning my damn spokes! The struggle is real.

    CLEAN SPOKES?!?!

I haven't considered much past getting them cleaned up. If it works better, I'm definitely for it. I considered getting some new spokes, but they are outrageous when you add the cost of shipping. I figure I can sand these down and have them looking 20 years old instead of 37:D

    CLEAN SPOKES?!?!

I'm on a budget and this is my first bike build. I like the look of clean spokes, but they don't have to be extra shiny or anything. They were painted silver by the PO but between that and years of rust I figured I could get them "clean enough." I'm going to keep working on them and maybe try...

    CLEAN SPOKES?!?!

I spent about 6 hours and 5 sheets of sandpaper getting my front spokes around 90% clean. There has to be an easier way, right? I still have to get the small sections that the sandpaper didn't hit. I'm thinking of using a dremel, but now that they are mostly clean, how would I go about...
