Whoa, 226 that makes so much sense. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the little rubber vacuum barb cap poped off in the garage (how I don't know). But I haven't checked the vacuum line from the tank. I hope that's what it is. Would make my day alot easier!
Hello again guys. Wow I hate always coming to the boards with problems. But my bike is sitting across town broke down (Sold my truck, got a bike.. go figure). I thought I had everything sorted out on this thing but today I was riding home from work and lost power going down the freeway. It all...
Well had my bike running great (79 xs400F) and thought id clean her up a bit. Not an easy task.. Iv never washed a motorcycle before and it had the usual 30 years of grime on it (not to mention getting in all those nooks and crannys). So I sprayed down the engine with de-greaser and did my best...
Man I used it all. But they were as good as they were gonna get after the 1 1/2 boxes. the rest was just hopes of getting them better (their was still a few dark spots but I think the soda really loosened em up and made it easy to rub off with the steel wool). Its actually a pretty fast process...
Yea I just used a 1/4" female air coupler thing like this..
And screwed one of these "hose barb"fittings into it
Then got some 5/16 I.D. (7/16 O.D) vinyl tube, put a little slit about 3" down shoved the barb in about 1/4" to 1/2"
Here's a link to the article I used...
Yea the more power and capacity the better. I used my dads craftsman. I think I saw it said 150 psi max and like a 30 gallon tank minimum. I could be mistaken. One tip is to avoid these little trigger type blowbguns. They are usually restricted for safety. Use straight fittings. You can just...
If it's the screws that hold the carbs together via the little angle bracket, I know exactly what your talking about. I used a pair of vice grips and alot of muscle. This will destroy the screw heads but I just went to the hardware store and replaced them with hex head screws and lock washers...
Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to all who helped me with all my carburetor issues. I FINALLY (been working 55hrs a week!) got em rebuilt and shes running like a champ.
Before. Covered in spray paint
After soda blasting and a little steel wool scrub down...
Dang I wish I would have seen this video before I started work on my carbs. Very informative. I've had to learn everything the hard way. And can attest to the frustration of using the haynes manual! It has confused me several times. This video should be in the tech section.
Good job bcware...
Well scratch that I just broke one of these float tabs off the new bodies
Can you guys see any problems I would run into running the fuel line to the right side like it is currently on the bike ?
or I guess I could JB weld the float tab back on. I'm open to suggestions
Ok heres some pics
Yea it looks like a regular hardware store bolt
Heres the right side of the bike
My question is when I put the new bodies in.. do I just leave the right side blank
like it looks here?
This has me confused
