    Oh that wacky idle!!

The compression on both sides is exactly 130, which is just enough. The bike has 19000 miles on it. I know it's not going to run perfectly, but I think the compression is workable. It had a bad knock that I couldn't figure out so I took it to the shop. The rocker arms all needed replaced, so I...

    Oh that wacky idle!!

Thanks HoughMade, I'll give that a try. I'd say they're pretty dang close to surgically clean. Soaked in denatured alcohol for hours. I did go by the shop specs and backed them out 1.5 turns. So when all is said and done, the idle should be (and stay) at 1200 rpm? I have my idle set around 1000...

    Oh that wacky idle!!

I'm having a problem with the idle after the bike is warmed up. The idle rises to about 2-3k rpm. When I rev the bike it doesn't seem to bring the idle back down, so i don't think it would be a stuck throttle cable. Engine still knocking after valve adjustment

Tried both suggestions and still getting the same, distinct, LOUD knock!! I'm thinking it is probably the valve seat because it definitely has a divot in it. Yes? No? If so, any tips or advice on how it's done? Thanks for all the help!

Engine still knocking after valve adjustment

Thanks for the responses! I will certainly give these a try before going to extremes. I did however already remove the cylinder head and noticed that the reservoir under the cam lobes on the right side of the engine was not as full as the left. The cam lobes however were not dry. Nice and oily...

Engine still knocking after valve adjustment

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to working on bikes but have experience in classic cars. Could you explain how I might be able to pinpoint any of these issues?

Engine still knocking after valve adjustment

I recently acquired a 1980 xs400g special II that wasn't running. I pulled the carbs and gave them a thorough cleansing. After reassembling, it worked! There was a loud knocking coming from mainly the right side of the engine. I adjusted the valves and it still knocked the same, so I did it...
