    Power on ground?

After rereading the post If you are getting 12 volts on the black wire(assuming that it is and should be ground)you most likely have a bad ground connection somewhere.

    Wrong voltage regulator?

Personally I wouldn't. I would rather unwrap the entire harness and find the bad part and if i couldn't see anything wrong i would remove the old wire and replace the wire then wrap the harness back up. Not saying that it is a big no no or what I would do is the rite way, it is just what I would...

    Wrong voltage regulator?

Hmmm every time i go and look at the styles of voltage regulators i get ones for a car/truck.I am sure they wont work if that is what you are using. What voltage are you measuring when it is over charging?

    XS400 Throttle play

If you raise or lower the rpm with the thumb screw it will change the position of the butterfly plates(or valves it depends what you want to call them) the throttle cable is connected to the butterfly plates/valves hence changing the resting position of the arm that butterfly's and the throttle...

    XS400 Throttle play

Underneath and between the 2 carbs there should be a thumbscrew. That is where you adjust the rpm. The adjustment on the handlebars is where you take up the free play of the cable. You should be able to download the service manual from "The Garage" on this forum. This will give you the correct...

No power......couldn't pull skin off rice pudding

If you are saying that raw fuel is coming out of the holes in the front of the carbs than you most likely either have your float height not adjusted or the float needle valve O ring is bypassing or the seat isn't shutting off.the carbs will have to be removed and the float bowls taken off to...

    83 Maxim Suddenly Won't Start

The engine is turning over. Seems you had an over fueling issue with your carbs I would suggest you change all your spark plugs even if they are new as they are probably fouled. you might be able to take them out and clean them to solve your issue . FYI after you change them or clean them don't...
