new speedo?

The more important question that you should be asking is does it have an odometer??? Speedometers are not actually required by law, but odometers are.

I've seen a number of bikes with them installed. Should be good up to 99 mph.

Im not worried about the odometer. Im gonna buy the speedo tomorrow. thanks for the great idea.

Just a warning with those as I have read that on vehicles other than bicycles they may not be accurate due to the fact that a bicycle's wheels are larger than ours. Therefore the meter is calibrated to calculate that speed on a much larger tire so with our smaller wheels the magnet will rotate faster giving a faster reading than true. As for the odometer a lot of the models do have an odometer built in (at least it does on my bycicle) so you should be good.

I am a service manager at a bicycle shop.

Most good computer (bicycle speedometer) are set able to just about any wheel size. For most you just measure one rotation of the wheel in millimeters, then input that value into the unit. Some may have preset values but should also allow you to set a custom size.

I've been running a bicycle computer for two seasons. Not a problem. I installed mine with a small Neodymium magnet to get a more secure reading.

The speedos that Mike's sells will work on your bike. All the Yamaha's use the same gearing for the speedos.
Smart phones have a speedo app, just get a mount for your phone and get the app.

Your call, but don't be whining here when your bike gets impounded and you gets fine. A working odometer is required by law. A speedometer isn't.

The bicycle speedo I have has an odometer on it.
You adjust the speedo by inputting the rolling circumfrance of the tire.
