Problems: Clutch Push Rod... Bearing?!

I have to bring this thread back because I'm having the same issue with so much slack on my clutch cable.. so to clarify what I read and what I've seen in some diagram about these bearings..

2 bearings in the worm gear. (I only see one in mine)
1 bearing behind the push rod?

You have to remember, the one bearing is only accessible via behind the clutch bos. the other that isn't diagramed or anything else, is apart of the clutch "push lever assembly" 1L9-16340-00

Its not suppose to come out, but it does, and you might have some space issues. typically any adjusting needs to be done on the handle bars, but sometimes, you might have to pull the rubber thing off the left side of the engine, and adj a screw there. I would double check the handle bars first, if you have the side panel (drive sproket) cover is off, you can see if the bearing is in there. Good luck.

hi all, i've been reading this post maybe you guys could help me? after almost finishing my project, i put some gas in, started it up, pulled the clutch clicked it into first and she jumped and died... no clutch. so i tried adjusting it on the handle bars... no luck. so i took the rubber cover off the left side but couldn't break it loose, so i took the whole cover off and took it to a vice to lightly hold it in place to break the lock nut ect. then tried to adjust it as per the manual. Now here is what i found... The push rod can be pushed by hand all the way in then bottoms out and there is no spring back. So the springy actuator thing that pushes the rod wouldn't actually do anything anyway. does anyone have a diagnosis for this? i have taken the cover off the other side as well as the springs out. but that is about as far as i was willing to go before i got some ideas. thx for reading. ok so i realize now that i shouldnt be able to push open the clutch with my bear hands as some one said in another post. what is an easy way to tell if the clutch is toast. and not an adjustment issue, because i cant say for sure if im adjusting it properly, i just know it doesn't work :)

So the clutch rod presses up against a bearing, that pushes the T shape pusher, which pushes the Clutch boss off the gears. So the fly wheel is marked number 2, the T shape pusher slips past the flywheel, and press the boss away from the fly wheel. So if the springs are not holding the boss to the flywheel then I think you would have it easy to press the clutch in all the way in with your hand. When I had my bike at that level, I would actuate the clutch, and watch the boss move. Infact I had a weird thing that I made a video of cause I could nt get a slimer shim. (in my photo album) But the clutch actuating side of the cover had to be on all the way to admire the clutch action.

Marked number 2 is off the first posting, RAF... posted a common OEM parts diagram there.

Hi guys - I gotta wake this thread back up. I'm having a similar problem with a '79 xs400 special (SOHC?).

Is the push rod supposed to connect to the worm gear? If not, I have no idea what is supposed to pull the push rod back out once you release the clutch.

Thanks,
Jake

Mentioned in your other thread but it's the clutch springs in the clutch cage that push the rod back.
Nothing pulls it.
There's a spring on the worm gear that returns it back to position.
