wester Build Story - 1980 XS400

Definately go with a fork brace.......I swapped my front 'guard for a fork brace i picked up on ebay, off an old enduro.Cleaned it all up,and drilled some holes in it for looks, ready for paint. You can see it in my album.Bike looks great so far BTW :D:thumbsup:

Thank you dodge!! I saw some cool ideas on the fork brace in the blog world... Now? I'm thinking inverted. Oh man. This project is spiraling rapidly out of control. Lol.

Speaking of. You've all left me to my own devices and I'm off to the tabs with a few brews, a few sawsall blades, 2 saw horses, one radio, multiple bad dance moves, and and evening in the garage....

Stay tuned.

You're welcome for the ad Milwaukee Blades...

^um, yep, so that happened...
and yes, it had to do with the grinding photo above.
Apparently you can still get a shaving of metal in your eye WITH eye protection??
Short story, because I know you're concerned - I'm ok.

So I took the last week+ to source some fun additions to the girl.

So. Flipping. Stoked.

An RD400 Tank I've been shopping for for a year+

2001 GSX-R 750 inverted beauty

1998(?) 250 Ninja rear end

and some Yoshimura acoustical love

I'm guessing that this only gets harder from here :bike:

Stay tuned!

more part sourcing... all on a budget...
found these beauties for 2.50 USD each!

(I promise I'll start actually WORKING on the bike soon!!)

Seconded!

Or use some ABS pipe to make "velocity stacks" for them. I measured the length of the stock intake boots and made the stacks the same length. Or mount them on the stock intake boots.

Am I missing something in the degree of difficulty? Please don't taze me bro. do I need the intake boots or the velocity stacks?

Nope, but you may be missing the lip on the inside of the filter mount that will obstruct the airflow into the jets and ports of the carb. Mounting the filters on velocity stacks, or the stock intake boots that include the crankcase vent, will perform better than the filters mounted directly on the carbs.

Cool bike!!! Looking forward to seeing this one

Thank you! Headed put to work on her today. I think I'm grabbing some clip ons today and looking into the modding for the for on the rear swing arm.

I realized the other say that my rear wheel was not tubeless approved. Quite bummed actually. Not the end of the world, but now I'm back in the hunt for a TUBELESS rear 18 mag with Disc.

They never came with one. Only the 16" rear drum mags where tubeless for the xs400.

Well at least I don't feel as bad now.
Thanks Chris.

Super weird though - bc my front mags (disc) are tubeless. oh well.
[ALSO, I love this forum]

Now I'm off to get a tube as well!! haha

So, it's been ages since my detached MN garage has been above zero. Ok it's been above zero, but I'm a wimp in the cold. No garage heater yet.

BIG thank you to this forum and a friend helping me get the front wheel with the ability to have dual discs. Also, I have a buddies bike that has taken priority over my xs unfortunately... updates coming soon!
