What did you do with your XS today?

Went for a short ride today only to have my rear brakes fail:yikes:So after getting the bike home quickly and in the garge I removed the rear wheel and got my drum out so I can start replacing the shoes.Thankfully I ordered them last month and had the set here already.

I need to order a set too, my shoes are 2mm, apparently too small. Anyone got a better deal than amazon for $38.?? free shipping? EBC 516

Otherwise I took my starter off, Apparently the starter had been replaced. The Amazon kit for starter guts, for $15. is off. I have to make some modifications on how it use to hook up, to bending some of the wings off the brush assembly. Then I tweeked it too far, I might post pic in my album later. I am going to see if I can finish this tonight. Got called in cause of rain tonight. Perhaps it can wait till tomorrow am.

When you put them on, measure the distance in the wheel, The book says its suppose to be Drum Diameter 160mm, 6.30 inches. see whats yours is? Page 125 of the haynes manual.

I just replaced my brakes with in the year (aka MN driver 6 months of driving) so I measured it, and I thought mine was outside that mark. The day before my wife and I rode about 100 miles on her, and combined wt of 420lbs. with alot of hill climbing, braking, and etc. So I am paranoid thats all, (or is that another word for OCD?)

(FYI Chapter 7 in Haynes Man is for the 77 to 84 SOHC model bikes)

new speedo cable installed, new air filter, topped up my brake fluid

helped my friend with his first oil + filter change on his cb750f, and we went for a nice ride :) good times

Will do.
Last night I measured what was left of the shoes one 1.8mm and the other almost nothing.I think it was something like .73mm.

The new shoes are 3.8mm thick and this is just the brake lining material. If your are .22mm you have plenty of shoe lining there but it is probaly hard and glazed which doesnt stop very well.

Yea, with the wheel off, you got see how much space is in the middle as well. Just over 6 inches, or 160mm if you got your metric ruler, (I modified a metal ruler for the Carb float check) if that is bigger than 160, do we have to replace the whole back wheel assembly?

Then again its also on the downloaded xs360 xs400 manual page 32 of that manual, (listed pg 1294)

I also greased my swingarm bushings yesterday. Now in the mean time Im waiting for parts and since the bike is down I have time to work on my 4wd project.:D

Yesterday I charged my battery, removed (and broke :( ) my headlight, and removed my front fender...

Today I ordered a new headlight enclosure -

(I bought the 7" sealed HL from Parts 'n more - I really hope this fits in the stock enclosure, can anyone confirm?)

I ordered a pair of #145 main jets, and #45 Pilot Jets (PO had put on Pod filters and never re-jetted the carbs, so i figured i should re-jet even though he said it ran 'fine' - I'll be in there cleaning them anyway, might as well)

I ordered a new oil filter, and new bulbs for my speedo, tach, and neutral light since they all are burnt out (i hope its burnt out, and not a wiring issue - Oil and turn signal lights all light up fine so i think its just bulbs)

Started to diagnose the issue with no spark tonight. Stripped the battery box out along with other ancillaries and pried the cover off the ignition unit. All looks good no burning or toasted chips diodes transistors etc. Now tomorrow check & clean ALL of the connections put it back together and hope for the best. Anyone with advise please chime in. I've been tearing my hair (what's left) out trying to figure this out. A few weeks ago I was able to take it for a short ride running on both holes not really good but running. Shifted thru all the gears got up to about 45 mph. The next day it started on 1 hole with the other just flooding with no spark. New plugs good coils new wires and still 1 hole then neither hole would fire. Guess I'm finding out that the bike was likely stored out in the elements.

These headlights are an odd size. I've found out the hard way that a 7" bulb wouldn't fit in mine. I did find one on Ebay for a small fortune but I might replace the whole thing bucket & all with something that's easily replaceable. :banghead:

That is awful news... Perhaps i can return it... Does anyone know what the actual size of sealed beam i would need to get ?

I did some more work on the wiring and the electric tray today.

Here is an update pic.

Been there, done that. With out a starter button on handlebars, caused a short on the starter, had two blocks till I got home.

Yesterday I got caught 'run starting' my bike:D. My daughter needed a ride to school, and it had been a while since it had been run. After about 10 failed kick starts, I started running down a slight hill, put it in second, and vrooom, 2nd time I have started it that way. (First was cause I didn't have the clutch set right):bike:
