Looks realy good so far, what frame did you use for the dohc engine?Did you ad down tubes on the front part of seca or maxium frame?

Hey Scorpio.....
The front loop is a Honda CB Nitehawk....It's been proffesionaly hardtailed..
I bought it on Ebay after months of searching.
Had to completely re-work the engine mounts, and as you can see,it only JUST fits!!!!:banghead:
I have the engine mounted at the rear,in two places, and a twin mount at the front...No head steady due to the original mounting points for the seca/maxim frame.Am hoping it's gonna be stable enough, otherwise i'll have to knock up a mounting bracket!!
Iv'e even had to make some cork gaskets for the carbs, where they bolt to the heads,to cheat enough clearance between the top of the carbs and the backbone!
The original Honda frame has a removeable down tube and lower rail(all one piece),which makes it slightly easier to get it in.It's been a lot of head scratching, but I dig the "squeezed in" look of it :D
My next major problem is how to route the exhaust headers,as the twin down tubes are right in front of the exhaust ports!!:banghead:
I have seen a couple of frame tube alterations on the forum,I.E an x shape to allow the pipes clearance, but i don't want to compromise on the look of the frame
So,i'm currently messing around with some flexible steel exhaust tubing :yikes:

Im hoping this winter to do my first build your bike has been my inspiration. If I can find me a seca or maxium fram Im going to alter it and make it a cafe. The squeezed in look makes dohc look realy big but thats cool. What forks are you using?
Yeah I see what you mean about the frame being in the way of the exhaust ports and was wondering how you were going to work around it?I think you could makes some custom bends and have both pipes come over to the right side.I was just looking at a build where someone else did that.

Yeah, was thinking along those lines myself....maybe bring the pipes over to the right, then go 2 into 1??
The forks are standard XS400,from my original XS400 donor bike(got the DOHC motor later)
I think the DOHC would make for a cool cafe bike:thumbsup:...good luck with the frame, can't see any reason why it would'nt work.Just be sure to leave yourself clearance for the exhausts!!!!:yikes::laugh:......
Keep us posted!!:D

Well one Idea I have on the frame is just using a single down tube on the frame that way I dodnt have any issues with the exhaust pipes coming out of the heads. My plan is to find a donor bike during the off season to see if I can find a better deal.I did find something recently I was looking at but didnt have the $ at the time to purchase it.I have the persons ad on my fovorites so if its still around next month thats probaly when I get it.

Sounds like a plan!!!

Latest progress pics......

Couple of pics of my new "Bullseye" indicators....was gonna run without indicators, but these came up and I really like the style.Am happy now with the position of them...was struggling to mount them where they could be clearly seen, then had a moment of inspiration, thanks to Mr.Carlesburg!!!! :D So,knocked up a couple of brackets and there you have it:thumbsup:...gonna run the wires under the seat and into the frame....

I really like this bike so far. I'd have to say it gave me a bit of inspirations for my 650 build. I even used that mtn bike shock I offered to sell you for my seat set-up.

Great job keep it up!!! Almost Done?

Cheers man....that's nice to hear!!:D
She's nearly there on the mock-up....just trying to fab up some pipes ,using flexi steel tubing,as I have a clearance issue with the front down tubes!!!:banghead:
That's really the last big job before I can tear her all down and start prepping for paint
Am glad you used the MTB shock...I think they're pretty cool, and they work well :wink2:
Do you have any pics of your bike???:bike:

Ya here she is. Its just in mock up phase. As you can tell the concept is much like your bike. Almost frisco style with clipons

This build is bad ass yes I too love the grips :D are you planning on running the flex tube or are you just figuring out what bends to use? I like the look just wondering if you will have to put supports in to hold it in place o and where did you get it and is it pricy it would be a great tool to help solidify designs without welding a bunch of crap together to find you don't like it:thumbsup:
