I was starting my 78 400 and a screw shot out from somewhere. Not sure where it came from. I cant find where it goes. After it shot out, it seems harder to start and it seems to back fire or pop when you drive it.

Any suggestions would be great.

I would take the carbs off ,then take them apart and look to see whats missing.Only thing I can think of is one of jets came unscrewed.:umm:

i don't have anything to contribute... i just wanted to say i love the "crap came flying out of my bike" threads! :yikes:

Did you ever find the screw it should have went into your air filter unless you didn't have them on?Like I mentioned earlier take the carbs off and tear them down so you can see whats missing.

Probably the idle air mix screw since it has the spring on it. My left one hopped out a couple times from vibration and wear, i made a little cap for it. Luckily everything landed in the space behind the cylinders.
