What did you do with your XS today?

Removed the battery box, voltage regulator and rectifier to replace them with a combo regulator/rectifier (on order).

In the process of removing the rust from the battery box for painting.

I also removed the exhaust to give them a good cleaning and the seat so I can give everything else a good cleaning while the battery box is out.

I have new mirrors to put on and soon, new brake pads.

I saw a nice BMW adventure bike for sale over the weekend. My wife said I wouldn't be happy with it because my real enjoyment is tinkering, fixing and restoring....with the occasional pleasure ride. 21+ years of marriage...she knows me so well.

 I got the same response when looking at a wr-x earlier this year...lol 13 years together and going strong:D

Everytime my wife hers me talking about buying another bike I get an earful.Today I said to her if and when I get it running again I said I`d like to trade for a boat she was all for it.
I didn't do much to the bike except order some parts and getting real good at using my pay pal account.Next thing to get is a fuse box to organize the fuses nice and neat instead of having them in a ball of wires.I don't know why yami didn't do that from the factory. And to think I read on here how brilliant the engineers were at Yamaha:laugh:

Everything was in a nice and neat fuse box from the factory. What happens to it after that is not Yamaha's fault :)

As long as you agree with her assessment you'll be fine.
Since stating up again, I've met 2 guys with 5 bikes each - 2 licensed and insured in any given year (they rotate them each year), one which is a collector and 2 to tinker with. Their real enjoyment is riding every day during the season (hence 2 ready to go at any time) - and tinkering, fixing and restoring all winter.

This is what a stock 81 fuse box looks like. No blades but glass bulbs.
A friend removed this for me just yesterday and soldered an individual mini fuse holder into each circuit. They tuck nicely out of the way under the seat.

If anyone wants the original box ...

I found a nice little blade type 4 fuse box at the local auto parts store. All I did was to match the fuse value for each circuit and then rewired it 1 circuit at a time. Only took about an hour and it fits in the original area. It stands taller but the seat still drops right over it with no trouble.

cleaned it, sanded the bars and tank and resprayed them and took some pics for my ad.

Anyone wanna buy my Seca? Too bad most of you are overseas..

would love to Willem. Unfortunately, I am too far and I just got a 2014 BWM GSA. I have to let the wife get used to 3 bikes in the garage for a bit before getting more bikes.

Norman those are nice set of carbs probably the best looking set Ive seen on this site..
chris thanks for showing me the pic of what original fuse box looks like, obviously the po of my bike changed to blade.Hi didn't put them in a blade fuse holder.thats what I`ll be doing today or over the weekend.

Thank you all for the comments on the carbs, I started a build thread and on their you can see what they started out like. First time using the harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner and DIY powder coating the tops and bowls. Now I just wish the rest of the bike is going to be that easy...
