After my ride yesterday I pulled the front sprocket cover off to check the condition of it as it hadn't been off for two years. It all looked good until I when to pull the clutch rod out to clean the end off. And found this:yikes: Snapped into two:wtf: I have no idea when or how it happened. It looks like it is made of metal with an aluminum sleeve in the middle. I had a bit of issue and did have to pull the clutch apart because the end was starting to mushroom and was catching at the end of the case. Luck I have spares:D Took about a hour to fix and I am ready to go again.

It fits snug in the sleeve. I guess after 35 years and 32k miles it just let go.

Hate to bring up an old thread, but I just discovered my broken rod yesterday (hehe). How did you remove the long piece still in the clutch? Did it just push out? Did you take it out from the clutch cover side?

Thanks for the insight.

I pulled the clutch cover, then the front pressure plate off. Then it slid out through the clutch.
