What did you do with your XS today?

Lots of riding today, we got our first bit of properly sunny autumn weather today (as opposed to just August weather hanging around late). Yellow leaves everywhere, bright and cool and great riding weather all around. I also stopped off at my friend's shop and installed the wiring for the tiny little AGM battery I bought and pulled the starter relay. My starter button's been broken since I got it, so now it's a kickstart only in fact as well as in practice. I was going to pull the battery box today too but I ran out of time and I don't have a mounting plate ready for the regulator and rectifier and whatnot. Butt dyno says the weight savings helped nonetheless.

Rtv Blacked my stator cover when I put it back together and apparently tightened it too tight too quickly so I had a small leak on the first ride. Of course I forgot to put it on the center stand before removing the cover. Now I need another bag of cat litter. Oh well:shrug:. I'm looking forward to riding it a little before winter.

In the mean time. I am strategically planning a rewire for a winter project. I am going to get new handlebars and put momentary buttons directly inside the bar. I will then use special relays for on/off buttons. I'm trying to find LED buttons small enough to fit inside the bar. That will clean up the controls real nicely especially having the wiring inside the bar.

BTW, This site is awesome for wiring: http://www.bestboatwire.com/

Didn't do anything with the bike today. It's a bit chilly for a fair weather rider like me to be out there rippin up the road on my 2 wheeled gas siping fire breather. Or my little XS400. There was a little bit of snow flaking last night on my way from work. Seems like it's getting close to storage time. Remember guys Seafoam it really good get that stuff into your carbs. And don't forget to FOG those lungs!!!!!

... Seems like it's getting close to storage time...
Close but no cigar, yet.
If the Edmonton and Saskatchewan folks still have some hope for next week, so should you.
It's okay to have your SeaFoam bought and on the shelf but don't lose faith in the El Nino effect just yet!

I hadn't lost faith yet but I am thinking that with working all the mandatory overtime I'm not going to have time to ride it. And that 90 octane in the tank would be awfully tasty for the garden tractor. I did talk to a relative near Calgary a couple weeks ago and they had snow. But I have been known to ride in snow in the past. Just wish I had a Ural. Hmmm Honey I NEED another bike!!!! ???? Sleep in the Garage?? Ok but I'm taking the Furnace with me!!!!!

We got tremendous weather this weekend and I was out of town for most of it. Just got back from a good, long, and warm ride to make up for it. Season's not over yet!

Finally have it running right. Premium gas makes a huge difference. So much fun. Today (and yesterday and tomorrow) I commuted to work and have been enjoying these extended summer days here in portland.

Extremely happy to own an xs400 :bike:

Chasing my tail with inconsistant idle and sync, and mix screw settings. Only to remember back to 2009...my bs34 on my 650 and...throttle shaft seals. Sigh. Get out the wd40, spray em on the 400...sure as shit it almost dies. Luckily, they are easy to do...just labour and viton orings i buy locally.

Got the LED tower 1157s I ordered in the mail last night and discovered that one of the filament bulbs in my tail light was burnt anyway, so now I have LED running/brake lights. There's not a huge difference in brightness between running and braking though, and they flicker very rapidly when the engine is running. Might need some experimentation to figure out the best implementation.

Half the problem is the mechanical voltage regulator, atleast i assume mine is anyways. My 400 does it a bit. I switched to a solidstate on my 650 and its alot more stable.

Mine's an 81 and the reg is solid state. The flicker is very rapid, I suppose it might actually increase visibility. I'd like to switch to a combination reg/rec but my charging system works well as it is and I don't really want to spend $100 on a new part to replace working hardware.

First I brought from its old home over to its new home which is a 8x10 storage shed but before she went in their for the day I fixed some wiring connector issues before the rain started.Im getting rid of the 10-20 storage so I`ll have an extra $100 a month to spend.:D

Brought the 79 for the winter.

I did some more work today on it taking advantage of the great weather we had here today.I finished putting the electrical system back together related to my ignition problem from way back.NNow I have to finish putting on the left hand controls put some gas in it and see if she will fire up.

Rebuilt the carbs with new shaft seals and needle jet o-rings. Bought the shaft seals from xs650direct/mikesxs.
Read a few negative comments about Mike's shaft seals. Hopefully they work out.

I have bought the mikesxs shaft seals in the past and they seem to be ok:shrug:

So today i started to disassemble the bike and mounted my new clip-ons.
I still need to find an old "box" tank. It's unbelievable hard to find one here.
So if any of you guys have one and want to send one all the way to sweden, hit me up!
:D
