What did you do with your XS today?

Hammered on the headlight bracket. It was twisted pretty bad. I hope it will look good after sand and paint.

Today I installed a freeze plug in the start shaft port, reinstalled my carbs (which I'd been putting off until the port was plugged) and put a final coat of epoxy on my seatpan. I'm hoping to cut it down to size tomorrow and start sanding.

MY seatpan's starting to take shape, got the front and rear trimmed down today and got started on the sides but I had to do some work on my car before I ran out of daylight. RichieB came by and looked at my exhaust too, thanks for that :)

No problem. Thanx for the exhaust. Bike is looking great. Can't wait ta see it finished. Can anyone give me a hand? I have searched on the forum and haven't found what exact rs125 forks work on our bikes? Use to live in Ireland and have lots of friends that come over to Canada and could bring me some for cheaper than shipping. Does anyone know the exact generations that will work? These are not for me, these are for levdir and am just trying to help out another member with his build. Thanx guys.

I made some aluminum washers for the top and bottom of the handle bars on my 80 and 82.

Don't forget to remove and replace the shaft seals:wink2:

I actually dont know how to disassemble them from carbs. When i unscrew the butterfly valves from the inside (2 screws) will the shaft go out? and i assume there will be some o rings inside.. That cleaning solution which i used says that it does not harm rubber, so if orings will be OK, do you think that i can reuse them?

Once you remove the nut from the end of the linkage and take out the butterfly valve it will all slide out. With 35 year old seals it is a good idea to just replace them rather than take a chance they are still soft and have not shrunk:wink2:

The ones I got from MikesXS came pre-shrunk.

I think someone said they can be brought from Yamaha still?

I have been riding my 83 Seca Deep Purple. Last trip back from mainland was massively loaded with gear. New foam filters arrived, so put them on. Low end and mid range much better. But still turns to crap just over 8000 in 4th and 5th. It previously ran better as I came down in jet size. But I am down to 125.5 on the mains, and out of jets. Will try 120 next, when I get them. Have also been wondering if I am having a lack of decent spark starting at just over 8K. Otherwise the bike runs real sweet. Handling is a lot better with the swing arm bearings fixed. I also lowered the gear ratio to 16 on the front, down from 17. But I like the slightly higher gearing, and will switch back.

Unkle Crusty*

Jesus, I'd jump on them except for the $23 shipping to canada. Will look into it more though, might be other sources for the same part.
Thanks xchris.
I put the butterfly shafts back in with the Mike's seals but there's a tiny bit of travel back and forth, maybe .5mm, even with everything tightened down. Is that normal? Would the proper seals take care of it?
Pretty sure I have everything that the parts diagrams show. All the washers, etc.

Received my NOS generator cover, dipstick/cap, and headlight ring today. All in perfect, unused condition.
Got all three on ebay for $70US. Quite the steal considering most NOS generator covers are listed higher on their own.

Sorry if it was someone here that I outbid on the headlight ring. :)

The seals wont take any side to side play out as they sit into the bodies. Make sure the butterfly valve is aligned. There should be a little movement so the shaft moves freely, but not a huge gap.
