Hello again, Toronto friends.
Just hit a wall in terms of insurance. I've been working with a guy at Riders Plus for a few weeks - he gave me a great rate and, when he went to his underwriter to lock in, he 'forgot' that they won't insure bikes with short VIN #'s - ie. old bikes like mine. He recommended to call TD and they, too, won't insure anything over 30 yo.
He's able to get it through another company, but the rates are nearly double.

Any ideas?

I went to TD to insure my XS and they wouldn't do mine either. I ended up getting insurance from Intact through a local broker.

I have my 1983 Maxim 400 insured through Aviva, my broker Paul South from Surnet hooked me up. They have great rates as well. Send him an email asking for a quote and you should get it pretty quick. psouth@surnet.net

Anyone want to share their rates and their age?

I got a quote from Dalton Timmis at $1000+ for an 83 tempter 650 and also $1000+ for an 80 xs400. I'm married, 26 and no tickets. Seems high.

Wow! I think I pay around $150 total for all five bikes. And that's for year round with collision. 41 married and no tickets. I have heard Canada is high for ins.

Sport bikes can be very expensive to insure here. Thankfully none of my bikes fit that description

Haha, I couldn't believe it when I got the quotes. Always been jealous of prices Americans pay for insurance.

Another thing that gets me is shipping from US to Canada.

Anyway, didn't mean to derail this thread. I'd love to hear back what your quote is from Dalton Timmis if you get one. I'm still looking for something more affordable.

Edit: I also got the same response from TD, they wouldn't do it due to it's age. I'm currently with Statefarm and they would. With my multiline discount it's still the cheapest I've found unfortunately.

It is high. I can understand it on your Tempter which is 652 ccs. According to Dave, there's a big bump for anything over 649 ccs.
However, I can't explain over $1k for a 400.
I've had an "M" on my licence for 40 years but have only owned a bike and ridden for the last 3 - insurance is $320 a year with the same company that does our cars and house.

I'm on a FB group where we set up track days for our local track and I asked around there a while back. A guy has a CB750 and he pays $300/yr but is limited to 3000 KM/yr or something through Aviva. Have yet to call them.

Even others with larger CC bikes are paying less than that through Dalton Timmis so I've no idea why I got a quote that high.

$75 a year for me, that's for one bike and two PWCs. You Canadians sure get the bad end of the insurance stick.

I think I pay about $250 a year for the XS and I've been quoted between $650 and $750 for collision and comp for the Concours, but it's not registered yet. Last year was my first season of riding but I did a training course which is equivalent to three years' riding experience as far as insurance is concerned.
