Today I replaced my petcock with the mikes xs non vacuum one. I also replaced my old floats with new ones (brass @ 26mm) the bike starts fine and seems to idle fine. Then I rode it around the block and at stops it was revving at 3-4k. I lowered the idle speed screw and it was idling fine at ~1300-1400. I turned it off and went inside for a minute. Came back out and started up fine but now it dies after idling for a minute. What would cause this? Mix screws are at 2 3/4, fresh gas. To plug the carb boot I ran the line that used to go to the petcock to the other carb boot since I had no other plug... Could that cause this?

I got some vacuum caps and adjusted the idle mix screw, synced the carbs, and set the idle screw. It's idling great right around 1400. I rode it around for about an hour. Everything was going great. As I rode back home it started idling really low at stop signs <900. When I got home it died (at least I was home). I started it up again and idled low then died. Then I checked the battery 12.4. I checked the spark plugs and they looked good. Started it again and it was idling fine. I didn't get a chance to ride it more. Anybody know what would cause this seemingly random intermittent dying?

What are your mix screws set at? You should set the idle after the bike is fully warm.

Yes. I did set the screws after the bike was fully warm. They ended up at 3 turns out and the spark plugs looked great after the hour long ride.

Sounds like you need to try another pilot. Does the bike start without choke? If so, pilots too rich. If the idle is hanging after the bike is warm, then It's too Lean. If you have to have it turned out that far, you're richening the mixture. And once the AF screw is so far out means you need a bigger pilot and less turns on the AIR/fuel screw. Which will give you more adjustment. The AF screw and pilot are the idle adjustments. Another thing could be the idle speed as well, sometimes your throttle cable can loosen and cause idle issues. Hope this helps

You can run the mix screws out to 4 turns before going up a jet size with theses bikes.
