Restoration: Where does it end?

I'm so sad, because the engine was running beautiful. I thought I was done (except for the paint job).

Don't freak out yet, strip the tank and give it a look see. Get the big hole filled, check for pin holes, toss some GOOD epoxy sealant in there, and that may be all you need.

Problem solved. :) I bought a used tank off Ebay for $200. The tank looks very clean and is in great shape.

Today I rode my bike for the first time in 12 years. This is a big occasion for me. 12 years ago my dad was severely injured on a police bike, thanks to a drunk driver. As a result of the accident, he suffered massive brain injury which removed alot of his physical and mental ability. In mourning, I parked my bike and let it rot for 12 years.

Dad passed away 8 months ago, and this is what motivated me to restore my bike. Dad taught me how to ride it in 1983, and it's a fond memory. So this restoration project has been good for me. It has helped me heal. It also helped me bond with my children, as they've helped me restore the bike.

Ok, enough with the sadness. I need to find a paint booth for the tank and body parts. And then I will be finished. :D

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I think it is great to keep that bike around if it makes you think of him, especially if your kids get involved.

I'm almost finished. I only have 3 things left:

1. Polish the engine, tires, and a couple of small items.
2. Replace the tail pipes (I have 1 N.O.S. pipe, and hope to find the other soon).
3. Buy some mirrors.

EDIT... I'm trying to post some photos, but having issues with the website. I'll have them up soon.
