What did you do with your XS today?

Nothing special today. Other than seeing the odometer roll over 86,000 km. Then ripping down a muddy gravel road because I wanted to. :D Might wash the bike tomorrow, or just ride it some more. come to think of it, it's supposed to rain, so I'll probably just ride and see how much mud gets rinsed off. :bike:

Brought the battery into the house, and put it on the battery tender. Ordered a output shaft, and worried about moving the transmission parts onto the new output shaft. I guess it will be fun Too! :shootme:

http://www.xs400.com/forum/attachme...ent.php?attachmentid=19522&stc=1&d=1449597791 Removed battery box and air filters. Next steps will be to get some pods filters, make a seat, then build a hoop to fit. Then get the compact battery, and hide all electrical under the seat for that "open triangle" look. This is defiantly going to be the hardest part of the build. Saw on here where someone used their old "swoop" handlebars for the hoop tubing, and going to try that. Same size tubing, and it's already paid for!

Was lucky and found a set of vintage RC-130 K&N air filters. I will use them on my 81. I have only seen three sets for for sale on ebay in many past years. Two new sets and one used. I bought them all and used the other NOS set on my 82. I sold the used set before I thought I would ever buy another xs400. I kick myself in a ass now for doing it:banghead::laugh:

Took off the brake caliper to find tons of rust.
That'll need a rebuild kit, new pads, and new piston.
Reservoir is holding pressure despite crash damage but I'll replace it once I get the urethane reservoir cast for my 360. The same mold will work for the 400 with some minor modifications.
The cylinder will need a rebuild kit too.

Took off the seat to find tons of... mud?
Looks like mud wasps thought the bike would be a good place to nest.

Edit: Lost my attachments again.

Installed some super bright LED bulbs into the gauge cluster. I put in appropriate colored bulbs for each of the three indicators. Also installed some pure white LED bulbs for my speed and tach backlighting. Huge difference! They go well with my new 4300K HID headlight and red LED brake lights. :bike:

Next step is an under glow kit. Not sure what color I should go with, though. I am leaning towards pure white or amber.

Nearly finished my rewire last night; I got my headlight working lo/hi with the idiot light and a headlight relay through the switch, front and rear signals and idiot light. I just need to connect the speedo backlight to power and reconnect the neutral switch to its dash light. Once that's done I'm going to go through and clean stuff up and sleeve it in split loom.

I spent 60 minutes removing my carbs, 5 minutes cleaning the enrichment tube, and 90 minutes re-installing the carbs.

Filled in the tank depression where the Yamaha emblem was with bondo, filled in a couple small dents, sanded, glazed, sanded, sanded some more, and hit it with about 8 coats of primer from a rattle can. Now I just need to decide on a color...
