What did you do with your XS today?

Took the tank off, removed petcock, PO had the inside of the tank sealed I literally pulled the liner out of the tank
So much for that! it has light surface rust will use white vinegar to clean. Diaphragm's on carbs are good passed the ops ck will open them up later today to check inside

48 hours with the white vinegar drained off 2gals and put some chain link and chain bead and went to work on it. Neutralized with baking soda, a degrease cycle of hot water and dawn with the chains, rinsed clean. 16 oz. of OSPHO to coat the inside of the tank, letting it dry out. The vinegar and chains did a great job on the residual rust and remaining tank liner.
Flash rust was present after rinsing but the OSPHO converted it to a clean finish.

First ride of the year yesterday it was 16 degrees Celsius up here so I couldn't resist shoveling a 600 ft path to the shed, take her out for a spin, went like a champ after a couple of starter spins.

Replaced the stock rectifier with a reg/rec off a CBR125 (Shindengen SH541QA).
Drop-in replacement (red & black had to be swapped in the connector) for the stock rectifier. Still have to have the stock regulator but the CBR regulator limits the maximum voltage present at the battery.
Prevents any possible over-charging of my AGM battery. Would work just as well for lithium batteries.

Will also be replacing the XS360's stock regulator with an adjustable aftermarket regulator that's on the way.
It's a Transpo IB301A. Basically a straight swap for stock on the 360. Would not be a direct swap for 400s with electronic regulators.

Also tested the ignition coil relay mod discussed somewhere a while ago. It's kind of a band-aid solution for old wires and connection but it appears to have increased the available voltage at the ignition coils by 1 volt.
For a cheap relay, wires, and crimps, I'll call it a good investment. Need to figure out a permanent spot to tap into battery voltage though.

Back to the old unreliable vacuum petcock?!???
Well when they work they work. My 79 had the same one in it for 16yrs before I gave up. I went back to it after I found a rebuild kit for cheap. I also want to keep this bike as stock as I can. It still has points ignition:)

Where did you get that fuel filter xschris? Looks like it works well there.
Got that a my local yamaha dealer. But you can get them off ebay also. Make sure to get ones that can handle ethanol. The ones I get can handle E85. Although I don't run that type of gas.

Okay, thanks. I thought I looked a while ago for 90° filters like that but couldn't find any reasonably priced online. I found some now though, thanks. Good tip regarding ethanol.

I don't know about reasonably priced but jets-r-us has some decent 90° sintered bronze filters.
