I hate to start a thread for this question but where the hell are y'all sourcing your exhaust studs from? PartsnMore has them for $12USD, then $20USD shipping(!?) so I'd rather find an alternative. I was going to make my own from stainless but that makes a pretty serious galvanic potential between the studs and the case so zinc plated would be better I think, or whatever they use.

So does anyone know where I can find some for less than $20?

The reason to have the stud instead of a bolt, that you have to remove over and over, is to reduce the risk of damaging the soft aluminum head. Use the stud if you can get them. Or cut the head off the bolt to make a stud.

8m 1.25 pitch.
Are they the same thread on both ends? I only ask because very often a stud will have a course thread into a casting but a fine thread for the nut.

I'm talking in general practice and have not removed any exhaust studs from a Yamaha recently if ever.

....how often do you remove your headers...?

Not too often, but I don't want to mess up the head if I don't have to. Only takes one wrong twist to wreck a thread.

True that. Besides, it's cheap to buy M8's and modify them... probably $0.80/bolt then some modification with a hacksaw and vice grips.

Now, while we're talking about damaging the head, what antisieze are you guys using? I've got some Permatex Copper but the galvanic potential is quite high between aluminum and copper so I've not used that yet. Thoughts?

The studs I have used are black steel bolts like the case bolts. I put them in dry.

Got four plated steel M8 bolts for $1.00 from my local NAPA. Those guys are the best! Thanks everyone for the recommendations; I'll post a photo once the exhaust is back on my bike!
