When it comes to welders I have 3 brands in my shop.....lincoln,miller and hobart. Hobart and miller are the same company. I use them every day so the cost isnt really a thing to me. But as for the harbor freight unit to be hobnest is not a bad little welder for the price......had a friend try one and he welds also and said it worked pretty good for the price.

Also if yopu ask me get a machine that will run both shielded wire and gas. Its worth the few extra dollars.

@got20z love your blue bike!! Sick as hell. I think I'm going HF baby! lol. Question... when you made the weld... did you use a squared off butt joint or a beveled one? Did you use slugs? Did you leave a gap between the frame and the cafe hoop such that the welding material would touch all three materials (frame, hoop, and slugs - that is if you used slugs)?

You want to do it just like you said......gap and get the weld on all three......remember when welding penetration is your friend.....
