Hey guys, new here. Been reading some of the posts about wiring and alot of good stuff. I recently got a 82 xs400s from a friend and I was wondering if I could bypass the starter motor and just use the kick start and get a smaller battery

Yes im looking to do the same thing right now. Its possible but im not totally sure of the process, i saw a post before a guy said he only needed a 12V 1.3Ah battery for the kickstart only. If youve finished doing it already can you help me figure out the wiring, i have the battery, regulator rectifier, condenser, and ignition coils but im not sure how i should wire them together.

I’ve recently used this diagram for kickstart only. I’m using a 2.3ah emergency floodlight battery.

I've never used kick start, yet... my XS has one bur not running yet.

Used to have a Honda in the 80's, battery went dead so I just pushed it, then jumped on and let the clutch out. Worked good since i lived near a downhill area.
