Hey guys, you've been super helpful. I have new tires but need new tubes to put on my 78 XS 400 2e. The tire sizes are:
Front - 100/90 18
Rear -110/90 18

What size tubes do I need and where should I get them?

Thanks

There are conversion charts you can google for; that is what I used. Alternatively you can go to a dealership and they can probably tell you. You can order them online and save a few bucks, or get them locally if you're impatient.

I mounted and balanced my own tires and found it to be fairly easy. If you're planning to do the same make sure you use a rim protector (i made some out of an oil container). There are lots of how to videos on youtube. The rear is easy, but the front is much easier to pinch a tube.

hey @domdom I wanted to know what load index you used on your bike. I know I am asking this question after 9 years but would really appreciate if you could reply. I am trying to buy trail tires from shinko but it has higher load index than the manual says, so I wanted to ask if using tires with higher load index be a matter when riding. thanks

Tubes usually fit several tire widths. Like it fits a 80-110 19.
If you buy local just tell the guy behind the counter the size of your tires. If ordering online you might want to contact the seller to be sure you order the right tubes.
The load index is a rating that shows how much weight a tire can carry. If you find tires you like having a higher load rating won't really effect the way they handle or wear. On a 400 lb bike most any tire will be fine.
