Hey guys

I have a 1980 400 special. Master cylinder rebuild kit just came in the mail. Super excited until I snapped the O ring in my attempt to put it on.
Is there any way I can just buy that o ring or do I need to purchase an entire new kit?

Thanks in advance

You'll likely have to buy the kit over and it may well do it again. Cheap crap Chinese rubber too brittle or VERY old NOS parts. I've pulled 20 year old OEM ones to easily change the piston before and they went right on the other piston and again used for years more. Throw the rubber in very hot water for a couple minutes to loosen it up, it then goes on easier.

I've seen crap Chinese rubber go on on parts to come back out in the morning to find what looked fine was split from simply being stretched slightly. Some of it is very bad quality, they do not use enough real rubber sap to make the rubber cheaper. Too much carbon instead to add bulk. Then you flex it and ot splits like crazy.

Bro thanks so much for the reply. I was impatient and ended up getting this other master cylinder instead because another kit for the current one was the same price. Any opinions on this one i should know or do you think I should stick to the stock one and just buy another kit with your suggestion.

Minus any evidence of the maker assume Chinese part if it fits every model and that list says it does.

It can't possibly be a 22 mm. part as that is .800"+ and way up in car territory, no bike uses a M/C that big. Another indicator of whacky. Bikes use like 9/16"-5/8".or .625" max, and that is for twin discs.

You know what? That 22 may well be for the handlebar size, it's about right. But who the hell rates a M/C by the handlebar size???

Again, screams CHINESE.
