hey guys and gals. i have been doing some minor tuning on my bike. like recently clean my carbs on my 1977 xs400 ive replaced the points and the condenser. the bike fires up and is running some what good. but my right exhaust seems to not have the same exhast flow/ power coming out like the left side. any ideas on what i can do ? thanks!

Out of sync carbs, bad compression, valves out of adjustment. I would start by syncing the carbs with a manometer.

Should be able to tell that by the sound. If the point gaps aren't dead on you can get that. Setting gaps by eye and feeler gauge with no dwell meter to even them up is the pits and causes lots of grief.

It's your carbs. They are out of sync now because you took them apart and flow between the two cylenders are off.

On a twin you should easily be able to tell sync is off by the sound of engine pulling off of idle. And the idle will be uneven itself. On one side the pipe exit will be 'speaking' at a faster rate than the other. Say pop--pop--pop vs, pop pop pop, or even poppoppop.

You guys kill me with the sync on twins thing, I always synced twins by sound only and they would be perfect. It's only when you go to 3 or more cylinders you actually need any kind of tool to do it. Learning to discern when an engine is pulling up even slightly lopsided is a developed skill but not hard to pick up.
