Another Dreaded LED Turn signal Thread

ok so i have led front and rear turn signals on my 1980 bike. will the Tridon EP34 flasher relay work for this application? i really dont wanna mess around with resistors.

That seems unreasonable it is easier to splice in resistors than to bother replacing the flasher relay. I'm not sure how yours is set up but mine was easy I just disconnected the rear signals under the seat and cut off the male connectors. I stripped the wires a bit and crimped on new male connectors with the resistor lead inside. Pics if you need it let me know.

what is required for the terminals to get them to work?

I am not familiar with the internals of the flasher, but it would need to be opened and whatever is connected to the prongs needs to be rearranged. The prongs are simply in the wrong orientation to work as-is.

No need to get into the flasher itself. You change the position of the female connectors in the plug on the bike. The come out quite easily.

-my stock orignal flasher relay does not work, however when the bike is on & also the turn signal, i can tab the relay & make turn signals lights flash. thats why i am asking about the flasher relay.

- do you have any photos of what you did to get the relay to work?

I used the same tridon 34 or 36 flasher, made little jumper wires to connect 2 of the flasher terminals to 2 of the sockets on the bike and the third terminal wired to ground. took like five minutes and cost about 13 bucks. I'll try and post a picture tomorrow. All 4 led turns and the brake work fine.

Here are some pictures of what I did and it works for all 4 led turns with no resistors, just the 12$ flasher (tridon ep34) and 3 little jumper wires. 2 with 1 male and 1 female connector on each end to match the size of the flasher prongs and the socket slots on the bikes harness and 1 connector with a female for the ground terminal on the flasher and the other end wired to the frame. I hope this helps.

with a small flat screwdriver, you can remove and reposition the female pins on the "bike connector" in mogie's pics, eliminating the need for the jumpers:wink2:

yes it does. If you eliminate the self cancelling feature (which IMO is not needed) you end up with an extra factory lead in the factory "bike connector" which you can tie into the ground feed in the harness or ground directly on the frame

You don't need to move the pins then because they line up correctly with the connector, you would just have to cut the wire in the harness that i didn't use and wire that to ground like you said frwinks. Also, correct no self cancelling.

If you go to a two prong flasher the ground/canceler lead is not used, just leave it alone.
Plug the two prong flasher in where the brown and brown/white wires are in the stock flasher plug.
Not hard to do, just need to cancel the turns yourself.

That's basically what this is, a two prong with a ground. I tried a two prong flasher (which eliminates the self cancelling feature) but it wont flash with led turns because there is no resistance. I found a no load flasher that is two terminals with a ground wire specifically for led's but they are like 50-60 bucks. That is why I used the flasher that I did It has three prongs, one is for power in, one is for power out, and the other is to wire to ground so the flasher works with no other resistance. (and it's cheap). There may be a two terminal flasher with no ground wire out there that works with led's but I couldn't find one. Also I used the jumper wires so I didn't have to cut the harness up.

Thaks xsleo, I will definitely try that one next time, cheaper and easier it seems. I needed mine to work that day so I looked at the auto parts store near me and the tridon 34 was what I could find that worked.
