What did you do with your XS today?

Tossed the carbs back on the bike after a surgical cleaning. Installed an in-line fuel filter, charged the battery, and got a quote on a safety inspection down the road (hello plate-less joy-ride). Looking forward to getting this baby done before I got back to school Wednesday.

Cleaned the carbs this weekend and resynchronized them. WOW...like a new bike!

While I had her "apart" I decided to get into some rewiring. Removed the dummy lines from the headlight relay (since it didn't come with the bike...sigh...) and removed the dummy line to the kill switch.

Then I moved the kill switch and start button off the handlebars completely...after figuring out that the new switch needed to be grounded (I was trying to just use it as an inline toggle) she fired right up.

New headlight bulb on the way home (I kicked the old one while I was working on wiring - POW!) and tomorrow I ride to school! :bike:

The button looks a LOT closer to the wheel in these pics than it actually is!

Happy it's not raining this week. Rode to school, rode to the train station to get to work, will be riding home tonight. Then more through the week. Damn its good that it's running well. Gotta change out my indicators and bars soon.

and the starter clutch is in. turns over well but it still won't start easily, even after I pull one of the pod filters and give it a shot of starter fluid. I'll have a go at it over lunch...
next is to clean the carbs. Again.

I'm liking this thread a lot. Many thanks OP!
I got her safety inspected today and fiddled a bit more with the carbs. Apparently she works with the mix screws 2 turns out rather than 3 (which I found both odd and economical). :D
Also had a laugh when I found 4 VIN numbers scattered across the bike. 2A2 air filters, 4R4 swing arm, 3F9 mufflers, and a 14W engine and frame. :wtf:

replaced the three white wires leaving the stator with new 16 gauge wire. Got the resistance I wanted from the stator wires (better than zero anyway)

Connected aftermarket voltage regulator to wiring harness.

Picked up both wheels (off of bike now) with a 2nd set of brand new tubes (both!) installed, this time by dealer. I look forward to posting my probable letter to BBB and a post that will be entitled 'My Letter To The BBB'. It's only 7 pages. The situation is officially not resolved as of today, so it will likely be sent tomorrow. I didn't write 7 pages for nothing! :guns:

Not exactly one day's work, but I decided to show some pics of where it is going. The primered tank will remain a stock shape. The blue one has the knee dents and is almost ready for primer. The fenders are painted and are getting clear coats now. Front fender is all red, and rear gets a stripe.

Inspiration comes from this orange and grey beauty of a Duc (no wait, scratch Duc) I mean Moto Guzzi.

Question: if you utterly copy another fellow's design, is it an homage or just theft?

Regardless, it's mighty fine!

Mostly did boring stuff like wiring but I just picked up stash of parts my friend gave me for a smoking deal when all I was looking for was a gas tank

I got:
A sporty peanut tank
Brand new petcock (says $163 on it )
Sportster forward controls
A supertrapp muffler
Bunch of braided steel brake and clutch lines
2 aftermarket tail lights
4" headlight housing
Stock sporty front fender

All for $150

In the picture you can see the tank, fender, and taillight being mocked up for future considerations. I need to get riding by the end of this month!

This happened yesterday but I'll still add it here. I put new rear indicators on since the PO had put on fake carbon ones UGH and one was broken. I got em on OK but if the bike isn't running and I flip the signal switch they stay solid. It is a low priority since they operate fine when the engine is on.

Its not what did i do with my XS but what did i do for my XS today.

I finally found a 400 lump on ebay for £120 its in need of a good clean up but whilst i've got the 250 in her i'll still be able to run about on her. Oh yeah and i forgot to say but i guess i just did, the cafe is now on the road and runs beautifully. At least i can sell the 250 lump knowing that its in perfect running order and is in mint condition inside.

Now just need to find me some 400 carbs.
