    Wanted - Wanted - 1982-4 XS400 Maxim battery cover/panel (right side)

I've got left and right covers in black from my '82, just to be clear you mean the panel that sits over the battery and it's plastic cover, correct?

I'm just impressed at the amount of professional skills and education this fawking guy got in the process of his build. I definitely LOST braincells building Davey. Congratulations

The only good, bolt-on straight pipe option

I just put new baffles in so lemme take those pics and I'll post some stuff with OEM mufflers, headers, un-baffled and baffled straight pipes

The only good, bolt-on straight pipe option

38mm nickson exhaust pipes and 1-1/2" nickson clamps. Grand total: 25 bucks-ish at Canadian Tire. No tuning, no jets, responsive even in the low range. Sounds dope asf

So is the DOHC bike actually rare?

It has the power it needs, right where it's needed. And I agree with you about durability, mines at over 70k and still kicking, rusted to high hell but reliable. Requires a smack to start sometimes, that's it

    Crank, no start

Solved: choke lever wasn't fully engaging the choke. I push on the armature itself now lol

Make and model? 9 Digit VIN I’m confused

You're right. Mine is exactly the same, it's a 1982 xs400, DOHC model

    Crank, no start

Bike was fine until I changed the oil now it's cranks no problem but no start. Spark is mint, brand new plugs also, just checked them to make sure they aren't lemons, back pressure seems right, compression blows my thumb off with me applying good force so I'm guessing about 115-120psi, oil I...

Hey guys 👋🏼 wtf is this thing

That is 100% what it is. Tha is so much. I don't think that's the culprit for my starter motor issue but the rebuild kit is on the way so I just want to go through all the weird add-ons the p.o done or just stuff I don't recognize

Hey guys 👋🏼 wtf is this thing

1982 xs400 Maxim DOHC Howdy everyone, What in God's name is this thing. I'm looking for a starter motor so bikes been sitting and while looking over the rest of the electrical I noticed this little doodad I never noticed. Doesn't look stock, what is this thing?

    Solenoid click, no motor engagement

Update: Starter motor started working randomly, then stopped again. The right cylinder also didn't want to fire when i got it to start. Only starts if I really back out the idle screw and full choke. Wouldn't hold idle.

    Carburetors shooting flames!

The autistic dragon - inhales flames and exhales problems 🤣 best of luck friend sounds like a fun issue to fail a couple times fixing lol

    Carburetors shooting flames!

This is just me, and I'm a rat bike guy. But if it runs AND does that..... Brother that's a feature, send it

    Solenoid click, no motor engagement

Odd question, would a vstar 1100 starter motor work? I've got 2 that work no problem and they do look to be about right but I'm dumb as hell about the finer inner workings. I'm a machinist so I'm confident fabricating, still learning the electrical-mechanical side of things

    Solenoid click, no motor engagement

I know right? My virago basically blew up at 30,000km, love this bike. And that makes more sense, I do have a multimeter
