so i got that jet and installed thanks jeff but new problem now every thing worked great tell i destroyed a cam chain :( one bolt came loose on the cam so needless to say it was a mess so all said and done orderd new cam chain for 100 from local shop (hully gully) and then orderd full gasket...

sounds to me like possible coil problem once the coils start to warm up from the heat of the engine rising the coils shit the bed if i was u i would ohm read both coils well cold then ohm read both coils when the bike warms up and shuts off that should tell u if it is a coil problem u could...

would like to bring this thread back to life im having a similer issue when riding my bike seems very sluggish between 4500 and about 7000 once i hit 7000 it is like a rocket ship checked plugs they seem brownish with a tiny bit of white LEFT PLUG RIGHT PLUG

so is 125 gonna be really lean then? stock airbox and semi stock pipes i think the ones currently are around 133L and 125R or somthin like that

figured i would ask becouse my local yamaha dealer is saying it is 125L 115R and the manual says 127.5L 117.5R

i got a 1984 yamaha maxim xs400 trying to figure out what stock carb jets are becouse bike is running rich i have set the carb wot needle to leanest setting and it is still a little rich so i was just wondering if any one knows the stock jets i cant seem to find a hole lot about this bike

nice buddy good to hear man so my next question was it spark timing or cam timing

that is cool looking the timing to me looked likeit was a hair off i thought u could undo the 2 screws and turn the hole assembly. but it looks really close so ima doubt that is the problem and you are sure ur valves are not to tight that they are not fully closing allso u said you cleaned carbs...

you sure cam timing is correct?? next thing on that left side by top of the motor isnt that timing adjuster for spark plugs did u change it to electric???

LOL arfstrom i did the same thing with the brass fitting forgot to plug it once and she ran all kinds of screwed up lol and you are right i forgot to mention to check carb boots and if they look fine use some wd40 or starter fluid and spay some at the boots it will tell u if u have a hair line...
