If you open up the rear compartment by tail lights, there should be two wingnuts on top securing the seat down. Once you remove the seat, you'll see a bolt holding down the tank. Remove bolt and slide back the tank, make sure to remove the vacuum line too its easy to miss.

But the jerking only occurs when downshifting to first. When i go from 5th to 2nd, no jerking and its smooth. So i think my clutch is adjusted properly?

When im down shifting from 5th to 1st, i can down shift smoothly without any jerking but when i get to neutral/2nd and down shift to first my bike jerks. And sometimes its hard to get to first, it would get stuck at neutral. What could possible be the problem? my bike is currently torn apart so...

Hi all, So I've ripped apart my maxim to convert it into a café racer. Is there a gas tank that would work with my frame? The stock tank isn't really a café racer type. Im thinking cb500 tank? any thoughts?

What bike did the tank come off of? I have an 84 Maxim and Im trying get my parts sorted out. Also the spring for the monoshock, did u paint the stock spring? build looks great.

It looks like my front brakes master cylinder is leaking. I saw splatter of brake fluid on my handle and when i removed the rubber cover there was a lot of oil inside. It seems like its been leaking for a while because the wiring and paint around the master cylinder is peeling(just got the bike...

Maxim 400 is also known as XS400J. I have the same bike but a 84', 1984 Maxim 400 DOHC.

Its not as a bright as is seen on this picture, but yes adding a pot would be handy.
