Thanks for the reply. There are several threads on blinker relays here. I've looked through them. Think I'm going to have to pull the gas tank off to get to it. But first I'll start the bike and test the signals with it running. But I need to get gas first. So next time I'm at the station.

Well, it arrived and it doesn't really fit. The seat cover is flat, not contoured like the original. I don't think it will staple down without creases.

All the lights work. Sometimes it blinks a few times. But then the lights hang. It's not the fuse. It's not the bulbs. Is it the relay? And where is that relay? This is a XS400j 83 Maxim. Here's a quick video:

So, I found someone in eBay who matched my seat by photo and sold me a cover which he says will fit. I ordered it. I'll update with pics and the eBay username after it arrives.

If it doesn't fit, anyone know of a place to buy one?

Quick question, I'm looking for a seat cover I can staple on to the seat that came with my 83 XS400 Maxim. The original got old and torn. I found someone on eBay who claims to gave one for the 70s-81 SECA XS400. It looks pretty close in the photos. Anyone know if they're the same?

Hey, anyone know if there's a difference between front and rear blinkers? I found a few on ebay, but I'm wondering can I use any of them interchangeably? Or is each one specific to its location on the bike? Seems like they're all the same to me. But that's how you get burned in an ebay buy.

Turns out the H4 LED bulbs in a standard incandescent housing are illegal in BC and Canada for both cars and motorcycles. For brightness reasons.
