Hello and thanks to everyone for the help in the past helping me out.
I have a question once again
I believe I have a good handle how to clean and how to ensure there are no air leaks at the carb. But I am not sure where to go when a bike starts great, idles well, choke will responded , throttle...
Impressive - I have know idea why it never came up when I searched Yamaha maxim side cover .....
Doesn't matter because you found it.
Thanks again for your help
WOW
That would be great! I just finished looking again on ebay and I could only find RH side covers.
Let me know let me know, I can swing by. Thanks for responding.
Thanks guys
Sorry but I wasn't very clear - I am looking for the side "beauty covers".
I would take the LH & RH - but we are in desperate need of the side over the the air inlet box.
Hello
My son and I are working our his bobber project and we are getting close to get it on the road - minus the final paint job.
Would anyone have a set of side covers for a 83 maxim and be interested in selling them? My son has been looking for some time now so maybe we have been looking in...
Thanks xschris
I have spare housing and rollers so I can take a look. Kinda what I thought it could be - I just really didn't want to take the flywheel off again.
Thanks for the response.
One thought could be – the spring force is overriding the clutch that is driven by the starter, and I am thinking it could be always engaged to the engine. The next thought is, if it was engaged it will spin along as long as the engine is running. (note these are the springs I just replaced ….)...
I am hoping someone can add some clarity for me.
I cannot honestly say I fully understand exactly how the AC generator works. I have this awful sound that keeps occurring when I start – listen to the attached video.
I have taken the rotary assembly apart and found the a broken spring so I...
16VGTIDave - Thanks but this one I knew ! There was a time I did not know LOL....
We'll I just installed the 78 field coil assembly and it fit likes a glove. I hear a little noise when I turn the engine over - I need to do a little more investigating.
The sad part is, I just made a rookie...
Thanks for the feedback - I took the parts off the 78 as you can see in the picture. I do have a spare engine off a 83 maximum. Swapping the complete assembly is a good idea. I will keep you posted on how I make out with the new challenge. Thanks again.
Note: I guess I need to figure out how to...
Good morning, I did try the link above earlier but it didn't work for me so I assume the link must have timed out. I was hoping some one could email it to me just encase the link was timed out and it could me be. Note: I have never used drop box
We'll I guess this is where the fun really begins.
After draining all the oil / gas out of the 79 xs400 2f and giving it a proper oil change the bike now will not start? So I starting my digging and confirmed:
1) I am getting my gas
2) I am getting my spark
3) Not being 100% sure made sure no...
Thanks BBS360
I have already downloaded the manual for SOHC bikes and it has already been very helpful. So far the most helpful information has been the part numbers with exploded view to assist in getting replacement parts.
Here's the link for the xs400K parts catalog - anouther $22 if requried.

Well what a day!
I am new to this group and I am still learning my away around my 1979 XS400 f. New bike to me = new problems = new opportunities!! LOL I have to say, I have been part of many different forum, but I have never been part of forum as informative as this website. Thank you to...
We're you able to locate a wiring diagram for a 1979 XS400 2f?
I am also looking for a service manual and parts catalog if you have one.
I just picked up another project bike - two boys = two project bikes! LOL
