Would love these in black so I can go 18" front and back on my bike!

    some modded xs400's

Anyone know what fitment is like with the smaller two-stroke Yamaha tanks? Specifically the DT series - maybe a DT400 tank? Starting to like the look of the smaller tanks.

Signs should read "DANGER ROUNDABOUT AHEAD"

I'm a big fan of roundabouts. Much safer than proceeding through an intersection, especially on a bike.

    The "firsts" build thread!

I got the same clip-ons. I agree, the quality looks quite good for the price. Only problem I had with mine is one clamp was slightly larger in diameter and wouldn't clamp the fork tightly. I removed a bit of material from either side of the opening in the clamp and now it clamps tight. For half...

Please Watch and Prepare: Correctly removing a downed riders helmet video.

This. As a paramedic, I always tell people that if the patient has a patent airway, DO NOT attempt to remove the helmet. Full face helmets do a reasonable job of maintaining neutral c-spine alignment. If you are first on scene, lift the visor to assess an airway. Be sure to have a friend...

    magneto ignition setup

This is the only info I've seen regarding PMA set-ups on xs400's: http://www.xs400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4648 According to the OP it works well.

Got it done :) but still something's wrong

Bike looks great! Have you noticed if the bike is using oil? Maybe do a compression test, if you haven't already. It could be the rings have seen better days and you're burning some oil.

    Done !

Stunning build! My new favourite xs400!

I need new tires and brake shoes/pads :-)

Be careful with throwing a wider tire on than OEM spec. The tire will 'bubble' up and become taller than stock, altering the geometry of the bike if only done on the front or rear. Also, significantly more flex in the sidewall typically impairs handling. It may or may not be a big issue on this...

    Fork Retainer Nightmares

Definitely helps to have a second person for this job. Get them to push the cap down while you work on the c-clip. That said, I just did them myself, using a large philips against my sternum to push the cap down, then I got in there with a small flat-bladed screwdriver and some small hemostats...

    Whats your OTHER bike

Those leather panniers are awesome. Where did you get them? Or did you make them yourself? I'm looking for something similar for my single-speed.

    Clip-ons + headlight = fail

I flipped my headlight brackets upside down so the light is lower, and cut them down by the amount needed for the clip-ons to mount to the fork tubes. Hopefully that makes sense, if not I can take a picture for you.

    HID headlight conversion

^^ Hard to tell from the description if it includes a ballast/ignitor. But otherwise it lookes complete. I'd recommend the 4300k color. 6000k is very blue and 8000k is purple. Bi-xenon's work by moving the cut-off shield to raise the cut-off for high beams. I'm assuming as this is advertised...

    HID headlight conversion

This. Your light output will be so scattered that usable light on the road is even less than with your stock halogen. Not to mention you're going to piss off every oncoming vehicle haha.

    Great video

Saw this when it first came out. Great vid. I'd love to build an SR400/500 one day. Damn hard to find though.

Are ('81) disk and drum forks interchangable?

Hey gents, Just took apart my front end to install clip-ons and noticed my right front fork is bent where it clamps to the lower tree. I put it up against a straight edge and it deviates about an inch at the bottom of the fork :banghead:. I have another '81 with disk and mags, so I was...

Honestly, who rides has Mirrors installed

Don't you need 2 mirrors in BC? On my CBR600 the mirrors are pretty useless - I mostly just see my upper arm and shoulder. Only time I use them is when I'm stopped at a light to watch traffic behind me and make sure I'm not gonna get taken up the ass.

    Cool DIY Motorcyle Lift

Hey Guys, I've been looking around online for good DIY lift plans, since a decent quality lift starts around $500 locally. This is the best model I've found so far, so I figured I'd share the info if anyone else was looking to build a lift. Normally I'm the kind of guy to just look at pictures...

    Backwards Progress

Oil light will stay on until the bike is running, and typically for a couple seconds after that until it shuts off if oil pressure checks out - so don't worry about that. Pull the dipstick and look at/smell the oil. It will be pretty obvious if there's gas in there.

Sounds pretty good for straight pipes

I dig it man, think it sounds really good. Great job on getting that thing running with the single carb setup. Where I live consistently has the highest number of fatal motorcycle accidents each summer in the province, and some of the worst drivers I've seen anywhere (I know everyone says...
