    anyone here from Germany?

Sorry for the late reply. I'm from Germany, actually not far away from you since I live in Kiel. Maybe you wanna check out the forum at http://forum.xs400.net But if you have specific questions regarding TÜV, just ask. But each inspection is different. Different inspectors tend to be more or...

    Ignition Coil Confusion

4 kOhm ist what you should be going for. MikesXS has them, but they're no 1:1 fit for the original mounts, I think

    Rear axle alternatives

Hey guys! I'm looking for a slightly longer rear axle for a SOHC. I want to mount a side plate holder and need about 3mm additional length. Doen't sound too much, but the original axle doen't have enough space left. Any ideas? I don't have access to a lathe otherwise it could be an option to...

    vacuum petcock no operating properly

On a german XS 400 site is a short how to on a petcock conversion from vacuum to manual. All you need is a bit of JB weld, a piece of metal and a milkbox to cut out a gasket: http://xs400.net/wb/pages/technik-faq/vergaser-und-benzinzufuhr/benzinhahnumbau-ohne-unterdrucksteuerung-von-oelfuss.php...

    Starter delete plug

two-hands-motorcycles.de makes plugs. They fit pretty snug but without the starter motor you'll have to trick around to mount the starter motor cover

    New and French.

Over here in Europe there's not much need to especially look for 37N parts. Just look for XS 400 2A2 parts, that's how you will find the right stuff on eBay etc. If you want to check how much HP the bike has, just take a look on the cam shaft. If it is marked with "1M0", than it's the 38HP...

Hi, what cam shaft is it? Can't say from the pictures. Does it have the 1M0 marking?

    Aluminum seat pan and upholstery?

Rivets or glue. Upholsterers often work with a 2k glue that will hold the covers in place

    My XS400 build/restoration thread

Sorry, I didn't make it to the garage yet, work is pretty time consuming right now. But I asked a friend and he pointed out that we have different rear ends. Mine doesn't have the big loops on the ends, seems like they were cut so I'll have to find other measuring points

    My XS400 build/restoration thread

I can take some photos of my frame this week, maybe that will help you decide which side is wrong. From the last picture I'd say the right side looks a little twisted clockwise and bent up, but that might just be the perspective.

    where to put the battery

I already saw some people hiding their batteries under the swing arm after removing the main stand. If you find a small but powerfull enough battery you might remove the starter, go kick only and hide the battery where the starter motor was. Or build a small electrics compartment where you can...

    Wanted - XS400 E / F / 2F seat or seat pan

I am looking for a seat (complete or just the pan) like the one in the picture: Only problem: I live in germany so I'm looking for someone who sells the seat and is willing to ship overseas.

    another XS 400 Bratstyle build

It was neccessary that way. The tank had 4cm [~1.8 inch) cut out to get a more frisco style look. Gas cap sits as high as possible, no tunnel at all and the petcock had to be as low as possible to get out as much of the little fuel that fits in. There's close to no space for the petcock...

    another XS 400 Bratstyle build

I just got the tank shell done. It was a lot of work and took plenty of practising, but it was worth it. It hold 7 liters, so I might get 120-150km out of it.

    another XS 400 Bratstyle build

Again there was only little progress on my own bike. Right now I'm waiting for a friend to finish my frisco style gas tank that will mount with no tunnel to the upper tube. When he's done I can figure out where to put the coil mounts. The old ones were cracked due to too much vibration. I...

    Brake cylinder change.

So what exactly broke? Is there a chance so fix it with a refurbishment kit? The XS 400 should have a 16mm front brake cylinder, I think. So if you find another 16mm setup, you should be good to go.

How do i install these mufflers

If it's a snug fit you won't need no gasket. Otherwise take measure on the outer diameter of the downpipe and inner diameter of the exhaust. Then you can either use a reduction piece like in this set http://www.classicbikeshop.co.uk/set-of-3-exhaust-reducing-sleeves-80-47310.html or try to...
