    Crankcase, and Engine Mount removal

I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it can stay. The clutch cable is attached to the cover, and you can disconnect the cable after removing the cover.

    Crankcase, and Engine Mount removal

To my recollection, those 6 screws are all that's holding the sprocket cover. You will need to remove the gear shifter too. The cover tends to collect grease and dirt inside, so it might need a little convincing (light tapping or pressure). I have removed the top motor mounts "A" several...

Does my bike have a transmission problem?

I just took my bike out for it's weekly ride, and discovered a whine when decelerating from high RPM. It does it in neutral or at driving speeds if I decel from high RPM. I came here to research and found this thread. I'd love to know if the OP found his problem.

Wanted - 1982 XS400j Maxim Front Brake Caliper

Depending on your budget, you can get the whole thing brand new. Look up part number 4JF-2580U-00-00. I bought mine from boats.net, but you can also find it elsewhere. Partsfish.com has a great catalog system. PS - if you want used parts, that part number shows up on ebay.

New to forum and in the xs market, opinions?

Yes, I think $2k is too much to offer. I've restored my bike to almost new condition, and I expect it's worth less than $1000. But of course you are making me 2nd guess myself ;)

    For Sale - 82-84 DOHC xs400 carbs

I have good working carbs. But considering how hard it is to find parts for this bike, I might buy them for spare parts. I'm waiting to see if someone else NEEDS them.

What did you do with your XS today?

I spent 60 minutes removing my carbs, 5 minutes cleaning the enrichment tube, and 90 minutes re-installing the carbs.

    Carb mounting on xs400

Carb mounting on xs400 Maxim (DOHC) I hate re-installing the carbs. It's maddening. I've had them off a dozen times, and it never gets easier. The boots are too hard and too small. [emoji35] Edit.... I changed the thread title to be clear that I'm talking about the DOHC.

    Restoration: Where does it end?

I'm almost finished. I only have 3 things left: 1. Polish the engine, tires, and a couple of small items. 2. Replace the tail pipes (I have 1 N.O.S. pipe, and hope to find the other soon). 3. Buy some mirrors. EDIT... I'm trying to post some photos, but having issues with the website...

    Restoration: Where does it end?

Problem solved. :) I bought a used tank off Ebay for $200. The tank looks very clean and is in great shape. Today I rode my bike for the first time in 12 years. This is a big occasion for me. 12 years ago my dad was severely injured on a police bike, thanks to a drunk driver. As a...
