Help with '79 XS400 main air jet

Ditto what OleDoc said. When I first came on this forum I read somewhere "I should just listen to you guys the first time, it would save me a lot of time". I have found that to be true.

Wonderful work, man. I like the way you come up with solutions.

I'm about to throw the XS in the lake...

Like xschris keeps saying, set the valves, timing and sync the carbs. It all really matters even if you think you have a particular problem you can't know for sure until it's all done. I'd also check the valve seat assembly, the valve and seat controlled by the floats. If that is worn...

Right you are Dave, I forgot about that. Here's an explanation of the difference. I bought my 3 Pc "Motorcycle" Driver Set from there (bottom of the page- no photo). The difference using the proper screwdrivers is a real pleasure.

Use an impact driver for screws that are so solid. I use a manual one similar to this and it works great. I can't comment on the electric type.

I'd try it without making any holes. The less chance for air leaks the better.

    ebay exhaust 1979 XS400

I'm just seeing this post now. Those look very much like my Emgo Dunstal Silencer Replicas except they have the cone on the end and mine don't. If they are the same they should be super loud (just like I like them). Our bikes are similar so they should fit the same. I had to make a bracket to...

That "crack" looks to be your points cover. Isn't there a place for a bolt to fit there and close it up? I just relpaced mine with hex head bolts. They are 6mm by 30mm long I believe. Maybe a little wider shot would help. I would replace the carb boots. You don't want air leaks. Oh, BTW...

    Rain cover/brake lock

I picked up a motorcycle cover at Princess Auto on sale for about $20. When I leave it outside I put a Kryptonite bicycle u-lock around the front tire so it can't be rolled and lock my steering lock. I'm cheap too.

    My '76 XS360C Restoration

As far as the front fork mods go, the front forks still sag when I sit on the bike (as you can see in the above photo I got kinda porky over the winter). I may replace the spring spacer with a solid one. But, the ride is so much better already. I hadn't realized it could use improving. It...

    My '76 XS360C Restoration

I found a bigger crack in the vacuum plug so figured I'd better replace it, maybe that was the trouble with starting. It was only 1 year old but was a made-in-Taiwan, cheap ass part. I couldn't locate a vacuum plug in-stock locally so I made my own from a piece of the vacuum line plugged with a...

'82 xs400 maxim saddlebags and such?

I've got a couple sets of bags that I use depending on how much space I need. A friend gave me these after picking them up cheap on Kijiji. As you can see they sling over the seat. There is a strap on the back that goes behind the shock. These I bought from a Wyoming cowboy on eBay. They...

Look on eBay. There's a guy in Vancouver that sells engine seal kits. He ships very quickly and you'll get the kit the same week. The seal took me a little while to get out with picks but it will come. Drive the new one back in with a socket.

Nice, simple looking build. I bet it took a lot of work to make it looks so good though. How was your ride?
