What did you do with your XS today?

Today I pulled my damaged camshaft and repaired the oil pressure sensor wire, which seems to have gotten severed the last time I torqued down the sprocket cover.

45 days into my new custom project. Ciao

    That grey suede looks boss.

What did you do with your XS today?

Taking another crack at a custom seatpan. the bottom is flat, it's the angle that makes it look kinked. It will sit parallel with the pinch weld in the tank. I'll have to evaluate if that's too deep or not at that point, I may decide to cut it back the half-inch or so so it aligns with the top...

Wanted - SOHC camshaft (81 Special)

Hi everyone, I'm in need of a new camshaft as I broke the PMA bolt threads attempting to remove a broken bolt. If anyone has one, please let me know.

For Sale - Selling some XS400 parts in California

Any chance you've still got this, or did Matt buy it from you? I just broke the pickup bolt threads on mine.

Charging system mystery (I promise this is something novel)

Thanks for the detail, that's really helpful. I did some more reading after I sent the previous post (slow day at work) and found, like you said, that this unit isn't designed to manage a field coil. That being the case, I decided that--barring a slight rewire to test an alternate...

Charging system mystery (I promise this is something novel)

The green wire presumably goes to the stator on the GY6; I've got it wired to the green wire on the field coil and the black wire off the field coil to the 12V rail off the ignition switch. The enricher coil is an electric choke on the carb, I believe; I've got that wire capped and going...

Charging system mystery (I promise this is something novel)

Hi everyone. I'm starting a charging system thread, and a thousand apologies for that. My issue is, near as I can tell, a new one, and one that's virtually impossible to Google. My problem is that my new combined reg/rec seems to be outputting 12V flat to the battery. Just try searching for...

    '77 XS360 Barn find

You'll need a permanent magnet in the alternator to run a capacitor. There's a thread on here detailing the mod.

    hybrid of xs400 and bolt

Given the styling of the new Honda Rebel it's not impossible that Yamaha might announce a smaller, kicked-up, old-school factory custom style economy bike in the next couple of years. I haven't seen anything specific, but if there's a demonstrated market, well.

What did you do with your XS today?

Thanks! It's Dime City's 17" reverse cone muffler and a set of 2-into-1 headers from a Suzuki GS400. It's actually a bit snarlier than I want so I'm thinking I might add another slip-in baffle and see how it sounds then.

    computers

I was poking at the idea mainly for the novelty of it but it's guaranteed to be expensive; I think I'm going to leave it for a project XS750. That said, have you looked for throttle bodies from modern twins? Something like a Ninja 300?

This is why you should not smoke crack

A beautiful build full of sensible, attractive upgrades, but I could buy a nicely-kitted car for that money.

    '79 XS400 Cafe Build

The green and white XS was built by a crew local to me, I asked what the muffler was and apparently it's off an old Honda XR (if I recall correctly).

    intro/build cafe/brat style 78'

I'm sure someone knows better than I do, but I've always heard that they're critical to smooth running. If they're dry and loose, try soaking them in mineral oil overnight.

What did you do with your XS today?

Still working through my wiring harness, getting endpoints wired up with Weatherpack connectors.
