Hello I have a 81 yamaha xs400 I have been working on and it needs new carburetors the posts are broken on the bowl I am going to buy a used set and I found the original ones but also another set off a couple year newer one but the throttle linkage is on the side not the middle would this still work?
I think you are talking about carbs from a DOHC model. It isn't so much that they are newer, they are from a completely different engine. SOHC and DOHC XS400 are different bikes with the same name, and have almost no parts in common.

DOHC and SOHC carbs do not interchange directly. I am not sure if there is a way to make them work. Maybe?
