I recently purchased a 1981 XS400 and was unfortunate to have the stock muffler crack and eventually separate completely at the rear weld connecting the mufflers. I purchased VooDoo 19 inch turnout slip-on mufflers. I hacksawed the stock exhaust where it was welded to the muffler up front. The installation was fine but I found that the muffflers themselves are incredibly loud because of a lack of baffling. I have considered many options but have not pulled the trigger on any baffling modifications. This is my first bike and I really want to ride. I need options for creating baffles for these mufflers. I cannot slide aftermarket baffles in because the small ones in there are welded in and block the path. My current idea is to weld a washer on the inside to create a smaller exit hole and get some air shooting back in. The difficulty with that is with the turnout style of the mufflers which makes putting anything round in difficult. I am open to any ideas and REALLY need help. Thanks!!!
