1982 Maxim Gas Tank Compatibility

I recently learned that my current gas tank on my '82 Maxim is starting to rust. I'm looking into replacing it, but have mostly found '81 tanks online.

Would the '79-'81 tanks fit on the '82? I just want to be sure before purchase.

Only 82-84 dohc tanks will work on you dohc bike. There are a lot of tank cleaning and coating options on the net.

I have the same color tank sitting from an old bike. If interested let me know. I can snap a pic when I get home.

I've managed to make a Honda CX500 tank on a Maxim 400. Not a perfect fit but it worked until I got a proper Maxim tank. There are probably other Honda tanks that would work in a pinch.
