Hey guys, it seems like everyday I ride the bike and come back with more questions and concerns then the day before XD

so today I took my bike out on a short ride (maybe 10 minutes) and came back to park it in the garage when I noticed a weird smell. I had polished the crank case and exhaust with silvo and there was small bits of the silvo left on some of the bolts since a normal rag can't reach in those area. so I thought it was maybe some silvo. But then I looked closely and I saw smoke! I didn't see any cables burn and the smoke was coming from somewhere on the right side of the engine.

I unscrewed the dip stick and a visible amount of smoke came out, here's a video of it, it may not be noticeable on camera but you might be able to see the small white smoke coming out.

I took off the air filters to make sure the engine was breathing and noting looked to out of shape to me but I took a video regardless. Do I need to clean the air filters? over filled oil?
or is this a issue with the carbs?

Im leaning towards the bike burning oil somewhere but hoping there isn't a internal problem and oil is getting into places it should :')

UPDATE:

I opened up the air filters and there wasn't any large deposits of oil or anything to concerning, I did notice that the plug on the left side of the engine was so loose I could unscrew it myself

That would explain the oil/gas residue on the engine even after I washed it. I think maybe this is the culprit to the smoke?

I do think the sparks plugs need to be changed for sure, I forgot to pull it out and note the model so if anyone knows what plugs fir a 78' XS400 please let me know

A loose plug will not cause oil to coat the outside of the engine. I think your camshaft seal might be leaking (it is behind that aluminum cover directly above the spark plug on the left cylinder). I have had this problem, and it will cause smoking as it drips down and hits the hot exhaust. To see if it is oil leaking from the cam, ride the bike to get it hot (20 min or so) and then without shutting the bike down put it on the side stand and get off and look at the left side of the engine to see if it is wet with oil and if it is dripping on the ground.
