Blu's XS400 Brat Style

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pod-Filter-...ash=item5b0f7adbb2:g:AoMAAOSwJQdW93mm&vxp=mtr I would look for 50-52mm. They fit better on the H-pipe. Also get the foam end ones as they will flow better. There are dozens of them all over ebay. Search uni pod. I got a set for $35 a while back. If you want a good running bike sometimes you need to spend some coin. Emgo's are the worst there is. That's why they are so cheap.

I've ran them on other bikes never thought they were that bad. I am a fan of anything it makes my life easier though. The part number you sent is for a 51 millimeter pod, don't I need 54 millimeter pods?

Measure the H-pipe end. I think they are 48-50mm. 54mm is for putting filters directly on the carb. Those type filters cause turbulence for the carbs and our type cv carbs don't work well with that.

There should be a p.s.a on the front page of the forum for emgo air filters. Seen a lot of people have carb problems with them. Most people can run stock pilot and main jets with uni filters. That's with also a stock exhaust.

Well I've already re-jetted for the open exhaust but I'm gonna order those pod filters. I was hoping to find them local but no dice.

New tank. Caps should be here today or tomorrow.

Tank leaks, ruined some paint. Sporty is back on it. She idles but doesn't have enough umpf to take off, just dies. One size up on the pilot jets, 150s on the mains (did the same thing with 147.5's. Suggestions?

What do the plugs look like? What are the air mix screws set at? Other things to look at are, compression, timing, carb sync, valve adjustment, carb float adjustment, carbs dirty, Lack of exhaust back pressure.

Gonna put new plugs in now and put stock pilot jets back in. I'll double check the floats too, set at 32mm now. Mixture screws are at three turns out, put a baffle in the exhaust so backpressure should be fine I would think.

You can still set timing with a strobe it's in the manual on how to. Also if you have the foam floats it's 22mm. The manual is off on this.

Well, I'll have to change the floats then, that could be it right there. Can I pick up the strobe at auto zone?

I would think so. I got a xenon gun ( the type recommended) off ebay for under $30. For what I use it for it works fine.

Timing is fine, adjusted floats to 22mm, I have two washers on each needle. She fired up first kick but the choke kills her and she won't take off in gear, just boggs down and dies. Thought maybe it was the clutch disks so I drained the oil and pulled the cover. Everything there appears fine.

Disks are a little worn so since I'm in here I'm gonna replace them. I'm 90% sure the thrust washers on the back side is what's wrong. I've got about a 1/32 to 1/16 of play where I can pull it out and push it back in.

Ok, so not what I expected. Apparently there is no thrust washer back there, just one flat washer. I take it a little bit of play is normal then? Gonna see if I can get new friction disks here before Thursday just cuz it can't hurt to put 'em in. Buddy of mine thinks the charging system could be my problem, might be going back through the birds nest I call a wiring harness. Thinking im gonna remove the starter and solenoid regardless and make her kick only.

There should be just a washer between them. There should be some play in the basket to account for heat expansion. But I have found that some bikes came without the shim that goes on the front behind the c-clip. Did the bike drive before you started to work on it? I would remove the shims under your jet needles and see what that does. Two shims what make it very rich. Are your plugs wet or very dry. Did you do any other mods to your carbs or slides?
