Hello I’ve recently got a 1977 Yamaha XS400 with a BS34 carb. There's a lot of history on the bike that I don't know. The last person that had it cut the back of the frame off to make it a Cafe Racer. I’ve had the bike running and Idling ok but not great a few weeks back. Then I dropped it on its side from loading it on a trailer then it stopped running after that. Since then I’ve rebuilt the carb with the help of my uncle who is more experienced than me with Mikuni carbs and cleaned it out. Now to yesterday I’ve had luck with getting it to turn over and run but only if i hold the throttle down a bit. I have a manual that says the 2 pilot screws need to be 1 1/4 turns out for the BS34. I am not sure if out means clockwise or counter clockwise. I’m assuming out means out from fully tightening down so I unscrewed it counter clockwise about 2 turns just to try something out. There is also the Remote throttle stop screw. I'm not sure at all where it needs to be turned too. I’m hopeful someone on this forum can tell me I’ve overlooked a small mistake that's gonna make me feel dumb for not thinking about it but at last I am at a loss. Thanks for reading.
