I have a problem with my 1982 Yamaha Max 400 intake boot. The rubber that seals the carburetor side of the intake boot is deformed. I am not sure how it happened with prior owners. Since any kind of vacuum leak is detrimental to the carb/boot seal, I need to find a solution for my restoration project. It is unlikely I’ll be able to find a replacement (it’s for the right hand side of the Mikuni carburetor.

Any resourceful bike guys that have run across this and found a solution?

For sure the rubber should be softened for both intakes to get the best seal, but is there a method/product to restore the rubber softness?
Apparently the plasticizers leach out of rubber over time. I’ve looked at a couple of videos that suggest wintergreen oil/alcohol mix 1:3 works.
Can anyone suggest the best method or even another supplier for the old right side boot?

MikesXS has new sets but I don't know what shipping would be. I have gotten a lot of parts for my recent restoration (82 XS400 ) from them and can would recommend them. The other is eBay, they list a lot of them with some originals and new.

Thanks I’ve bought from MikesXS. Unfortunately they don’t have my specific boot (it’s a Maxim and has an offset intake boot.

Brake fluid also softens rubber. Don't soak it too long--I like to apply it with a towel or whatever, give it maybe 5-10min, then wipe it off.
