Is it okay to chop the exhaust right before the crossover pipe and custom fit mufflers and hangers? I can seem to find any aftermarket pipes and I hate the stock megaphone style. Thanks!

Put the hack saw down! Buy a Mac header and sell your complete and un-molested exhaust to cover the cost. Then you can ask about why your bike doesn't run well, and we can tell you about re-jetting the carbs.
Or, be happy with not annoying your neighbours with a loud exhaust and enjoy the ride. The stock exhaust is louder than you hear when riding, and performs decently on stock bikes.

He's serious, do a little search.
Stock exhaust will give you the best tune. I just took the 2-1 off my 80 to put a stock 80-82 set back on it. Bike has never ran so smooth. I will never run another non-stock again.

If you look at my exhuast I cut down the pipes on mine and rejetted cause the owner before me looked like he shoved a crowbar in it and spun it but cleaned it out made my own perforated baffle tubes to fit the inside diameter of the pipe inside the megaphone and I got that nasty sound that will make people think your on a 650 bored some people swear I'm lying when I say it's a tiny ass 400 lmao and bikes runs flawlessly ,,,at 1200rpm idle

If you give me till morning I'll post one for ya I just got off the bike from group ride and I woke up my whole neighborhood lmfao but I don't care love the sound and people hear me before I get up beside them if your a rider you want your shit loud so people will hear you some people have hearing aids lol

Agreed. Quiet pipes can kill, but I don't like bothering people with too loud of pipes either

Yea sometimes I do want to ride without the racket like right now if I had a muzzy on my bike I could peel out at any given time so you can say due to the noise I got a curfew at the age of 31yeqrs old lol sucks but you know , that's a thought maybe I'll make some night time baffles now lol cause I can actually remove these in a matter of mins so I got an idea now lol shit never stops getting customized lmao bike life
